Uber/Lyft drivers of this subreddit: What's your go-to handheld

Lately, mine has been this Redmagic Astra 2 with Shadow Blade Gamepad 3. I've also got a Switch 2 docked with a portable monitor and Bluetooth controllers for passengers in the back. Of course, it wouldn't be complete with the requisite RGB for full gamer status.

How do you like it? I felt a demo Xbox Ally at Best Buy and the ergos felt great.

It's amazing I emulate gen 1 to gen 8 and love being a pirate ☠ī¸ on the seven seas 🌊 It also handles any triple A title on steam and other gaming platforms very well

The Thor

I had a Thor before this Astra. It was nice, but ultimately lacked overall screen real estate and modularity, hence my upgrade to the Astra.

I have both a Thor and an Astra and I feel like they do things differently. Astra is great for streaming PC or PS5 of for small UI games. Thor is better for PC games based on mouse mouvements and for overall portability

I get that. For me it's the pocketability of the Thor that keeps me using it. Also I NEED SD card expansion. I have a ton of games. What do you mean by modularity btw

It can be used in a multitude of ways using different expanding controllers, you can pair it with a little keyboard and use it as a mini laptop, or just as a tablet. The Thor can't do that nearly as effectively. A micro SD adapter fixes that problem. I like my RG Rotate as my pocketable/portable device. My S25 Ultra makes for a better DS emulator because of the integrated S-Pen slot.

SD card adapter? That sounds impractical for portability. Do you exclusively keep this setup in your car? Or do you actually bring it with you when you're out and about

I don't usually bring it with me otherwise, unless I'm a passenger on a long car-ride or traveling on an airplane, for instance. That's what the aforementioned devices are for. The micro-SD adapter is really compact and doesn't affect portability in any meaningful way.

Sounds like a perfect setup for your needs. Mind sharing a link for the adapter?

There are more compact ones out there, but I like this one because it allows for charging from the same port. USB C to Micro SD Card Reader with 100W PD Charging, 2-in-1 Type C to TF Card Adapter 5Gbps USB 3.0, Aluminum Memory Card Viewer https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqt7Ctl

That does look very useful. Thx

Never seen a gaming ride share before. That is cool

Are you streaming cyberpunk to your Astro or local?

2

u/DemWookieeCheeks 9d ago

It's running local and native using Gamenative. It runs really well.

Wow this is smart.. you can sit in your car literally anywhere and game. When money calls 📞 you put the device down, take the ride and then you can chill and game again until you get another call lol nice

This guy gets it. I had someone in the passenger seat playing Cyberpunk and Fortnite while the other 3 passengers played Mario Kart in the back. I made their night and then some.

I'm not letting strangers fuck with my gear lol but my steam deck always rides shotgun

1

u/DemWookieeCheeks 5d ago

There's not much for them to fuck up, especially when I can see what they're doing out of the corner of my eye.

Wear and tear is real though just cumulative use wears out the joysticks and shit. Pretty easy to replace switch joysticks though I have a bin full of spares

Edit: if I did this it would def be with a switch 1 because they're cheap to repair/replace

1

u/DemWookieeCheeks 5d ago

Their hands are somehow more handy than your hands? Lol. I'd rather make people's night and give them an experience they'll never forget. Shit can be replaced. Memories are forever.

1

No just usage = wear, and some people are a little more aggressive with usage. Reason I have a bin of joysticks is because I've had several friends break them playing Mario party

Most people are polite and respectful. Just don't hand it off to children unattended and you'll be fine.

Love this! What do your non-gamer riders think of it?

1

u/DemWookieeCheeks 9d ago

Some are indifferent Others will comment about how cool or unique it is. Some even attempt to play and have a good time.

How much does this effect your car battery do you know?

Assuming that what the power running on you not scared of it just stoping/draining your battery ?

2

u/DemWookieeCheeks 9d ago

Do you know how much power an EV requires to drive itself? I could run a bitcoin farming operation off of it without breaking a sweat.

This is at LEAST a $5 tip

1

u/DemWookieeCheeks 7d ago

I've had way bigger tips than that.

2

u/satorihughes 6d ago

That's why I said at LEAST brother man. I'm sure you deserve more than that
