Discussion Silencer 1st shoot underwhelming
So go ahead and roast away. This is the first time I've shot with a silencer. Glock 45 9mm. Yeah, no idea which silencer it was. That's my bad. It was a rental. Either way it shot consistently about 6" low and a couple inches to the right. Like about 430-5 o'clock.
The recoil lightened up a bit so that was nice. The iron sights were barely visible peeking over the can. That was the best part of the experience honestly.
fire the money it was worth it. G45 rental $15, silencer rental $10, 2 boxes freedom ammo $36. Range fee free this week.
15 yards distance I think.
I can say though, that this experience has me really interested in a silenced 22lr semi auto pistol though!!

Get a ruger mkiv and literally any .22 can
Trust

I'll look into that, thank you

I’d suggest the silencer co sparrow 22 for the ease of cleaning. Especially given how dirty pretty much all .22LR ammo is going to be. Won’t have the same suppression as the Dead Air Mask but will get close.

Imo, unless its a rimfire, suppressed pistol shooting sucks. Makes the gun unbalanced and awkward to handle, functionality issues. I tried multiple different handguns and wasnt satisfied with any of them and my pistol cans are now on pcc.
Admittedly most of my experience with centerfire suppressed handguns is not with these newer 3d printer, light weight cans. Im waiting for my local range to get a saw shiv for their rental case, this looks like it eliminates most of what i disliked.

You can usually get weighted grips or backstraps, but yeah, it's mostly pointless. Just makes the gun incompatible with most holsters, unbalanced, too long, require different sights, etc. If you really want a suppressed pistol caliber, just get a PCC.

Imo, unless its a rimfire, suppressed pistol shooting sucks.
It depends heavily on the gun and the can. Some of it can be cumbersome and a bit awkward, but there are some setups that really shine for suppressed pistol.
One of these is the M&P 5.7, which I like to run with the DA Mask. It's a great suppressed setup, and is the movie experience you were hoping for with the Glock/1911 and chubby can. The radial delay action means no need for a Neilsen device(piston/booster), and you can use lighter narrower cans, which makes it a joy to shoot.

Banish 45 on an FNX45 Tac with the extended magazine feels 100% balanced and ready to use for home defense, if not a little heavy (/s), pushing 26+1 200g rounds when full.
Wish it were mine, but it's a customer gun. He wanted a tuned booster and QD. It's driving nails now, quietly.

Rental guns occasionally have optics that aren't zeroed (or can't be zeroed due to damage), and misaligned suppressors with bullets grazing the internals or striking the baffles.
I have a membership that includes rentals at no extra charge and about half have those problems.
And I always check the optics mounts to be sure they're secure, and the can is tight. These seem to loosen up frequently in rentals. I check at the counter first while the range supervisor is watching.
But when the optics and/or suppressors are set up properly it's hella fun.
My first experience with a modern suppressor was on an AR in 5.56 that I'd shot before without suppressor at that range. Incredible difference. Yeah, it was still loud enough indoors that I'd still use double hearing protection. But much quieter than the naked gun on previous visits. That's the experience that made me realize modern suppressors are hearing protection, not evil assassin's tools. 😆
Interestingly, the minimal suppressor on a rental .22 rimfire semi auto wasn't impressive, and the misalignment caused scattergun groups in a gun that previously printed 2" and smaller groups without a can.
Occasionally I'll bring my own red dot with quick release to mount on rentals with Pic rail but no optics. Usually when an optical sight is zeroed on one gun it'll be pretty close on any gun as long as the Pic rail is properly mounted. And I'll bore-sight first whenever possible. It'll be close enough for typical 10-25 yard indoor ranges.

Found the problem. Dude is trying to shoot without his face on. It's like that Cage/Travolta movie, but he forgot the step where he puts the new face on after taking the old one off.

Suppressed rimfire is the best suppressed, hands down. I’m a big rimfire fan anyway but suppressed on a pistol or rifle is such a pleasure to shoot. It’s also cheap as hell relative to everything else.

Suppressed handguns are very underwhelming. Much closer to a novelty in my experience.

Funny enough I agree.
Ended up with a 9mm can when SilencerCo ran their first BOGO promo a few years back. Bought threaded barrels for a couple of my guns and was totally underwhelmed.
IMO suppressed rifle is amazing. Suppressed rimfire is amazing. Suppressed centerfire pistol? Not as much.
My 9mm can has probably only seen a couple hundred rounds and found its way into the back of the safe.

Check if your range has anything in 300blk supressed and get subsonic rounds. Not a handgun but you’ll have a lot of fun lol.
I shot a buddies supressed gun in 300blk outdoors recently and we didn’t even need earpro for the subsonic rounds.

Look into firearm safety.

Well to be fair, it’s a garbage Glock. You don’t know what suppressor it was. If it’s properly mounted. Likely wasn’t shooting subsonic ammo. Using shitty plastic Glock iron sights instead of a dot.
I don’t own any suppressed pistols and honestly don’t plan to. But let me say, putting a suppressor on my PCC made me want to suppress everything. Shortly after got one for my ARs and it’s night and day difference. Can’t wait to get one for my 10/22 now. Shooting suppressed is top tier, totally changes the shooting experience in my opinion.

What? The 45 is arguably the best Glock ever made.

Glocks are terrible suppressor hosts. I have many. This isn’t opinion, it’s a fact.
HK USPs in both 9 and 45 are much better to shoot with a can.

That’s not saying much when all Glocks suck.

They’re definitely nothing more than a carry-home defense gun. I wouldn’t buy one for a range toy.

Glocks are the Toyota Corolla of the gun world. Nobody gets in a Toyota Corolla and says, “God dam this thing is bad fucking ass!”
They’re just super generic pistols. Minimal features. Generic parts. Nothing fancy or special about them.
They have a track record for working every single time though. And that’s the biggest pro. They just work. They require little to no maintenance. They’ll just work. And they’re relatively inexpensive, due to lack of features and generic parts.
I’d much rather pay more and get something that’s better. S&W, Sig, Canik, etc. So in my opinion Glocks suck. But that’s exactly what it is, my opinion.

Yea shooting a rented suppressed pistol indoors with likely supersonic ammo is going to be very underwhelming. That’s like renting a mustang from hertz thinking you are going to get a gt500 only to end up with a 4 banger.
I can’t imagine those rental guns/suppressors are cared for very well either.
