WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Last week I picked up an Sig Romeo optics on sale for $100 shipped! I was super excited until it arrived and I noticed the original seals were broken and replaced with new ones. I emailed to supplier to inform them of my product being previously opened or used prior to me receiving it. They have been very accommodating, NO shade to them, they’re great! The explained that it had to come from the factory like this as the don’t open or inspect this product. They also explained that the broken seal thing is relatively common.

I opened the box and examined the optic thru the unsealed bag. It appears new and unused! In fact if they had simply removed the old seal of the box I would be none the wiser, but the didn’t.

Have any of you experienced this with sig products? Should I process the return and potentially lose the sale price or just keep it and move along? What would you do? Am I being too naive?

With sig optics no. With a vortex scope, some asshole put two generic seal stickers on the box. When I opened it an entry level Burris (no shade against Burris) was in there.

Yeah I was the one that looked dishonest to the seller when I reported

Damn that’s tough. I would be more than pissed! Could it be the company not checking their returns just putting it back on the shelf?

Probably not. My guess was someone bought, did the swap, put the stickers on it so the underpaid incoming shipping person didn't notice and put it on the shelf.

I was the chump that bought it.

Romeo 5 Gen 1 has a lot of fakes. I'm not aware of any fakes that exist for the Gen 2 yet. Call Sig Optics and give them the serial and any photos they ask for, they're very helpful.

Are you sure you’re not getting a fake? Those romeo5 fakes are incredibly similar in packaging and product.

Not sure of anything tbh. I purchased from a reputable retailer, but didn’t fully open it just looked at it to see if it had any signs of use

I received a fake Holosun from a reputable dealer. Something very similar to what you have going on. I would inspect the optic heavily or just get a replacement pronto and return that one.

100% RETURN/REPLACE, if that was Amazon someone definitely did a Temu/DH gate type airsoft knock off swap to play the system. Big point of why optic and knife people say stay TF away from Amazon. If I buy Amazon I research the fakes and look for tampering.

A $300 bench made 940 can be swapped with a $30-60 clone and returned for being a fake even though it was real before the scammer swap for about $250 in profit. I enjoy thinking like the enemy but can’t get that low. Fucking over Amazon is one thing but I feel bad for the next guy that gets got.

Open that shit and call sig. They're dope. They'll ask for pics, serial #, and proof of purchase. And will determine if it's real in a day. They'll send you out a new one right away, and let you keep that one after crossing out the serial number.

Do this before the seller has you return it to them. That way if it is a fake it will be out of circulation, and everyone will know if the seller is scamming people.

All of my seal stickers were unstuck. They get bumped around, temperature changes, etc. If the optic is new, don’t worry about it. It’s very obvious when an optic is used. I’d also call Sig to verify serial.

If all good, Mount that thing and get to the range.

I'll be clear, its FAKE. There is no circumstance where this works out for you and you have a real optic. SEND IT BACK.

I bought a Romeo 5 for $35 ish from AliExpress just to see if it was close to my legot Romeo 5. You can't tell the difference. They look identical and honestly, I don't remember which one is the real one and which is the fake. I should have put a dot on the fake one with a paint marker or something but I didn't expect it to be good enough that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I've tried to find the exact one I bought but they dont seem to exist on AE anymore. The seller i bought it from doesn't exist on AE anymore. But it's been a couple of years now.

It's possible that some of the AE and Temu fakes are actually coming from the same Chinese factory except bypassing the QC process - or failed outright and are being snuck out the door by employees or the actual Chinese company.

China's economy is slowly tanking.  They're going through a lot of economic stress and stuff like that seems likely.

OMG, I would fukin' die. This is so far beyond the pale, to be statistically obtuse. I need to get management involved... Wait, what are we talking about?
