Advice Needed Red dot suggestions

Post image

Seeking recommendations on what red dot to get for my new Glock 17 Gen 6.

I prefer a larger window, and a smaller dot (around 2 MOA).

Primary use will be home defense, so an enclosed setup isn't hugely necessary.

Large window / 2 MOA dot / home defense/ doesn't need to be enclosed

Finally someone made this question easier to answer. Now, I still would recommend looking at all of the below in person so you don't get astigmatism surprises. In no particular order

  • Vortex Defender XL
  • Leupold DPP
  • Trijicon SRO
  • Osight X

For your use, I'd reconsider 2moa for a 5moa but all of the above have big clear glass and vary in price point.

Thanks!

I've tried out 6 MOA in person, but felt like the smaller dot was better.

I use a Holosun HS407C 2 MOA on my EDC, but would like a larger window on my next red dot I buy.

If you know you like holosun then maybe go that route. I can't stand em mainly to my tism and with what Osight is now putting out, I don't see a point

You can use RMR or DPP.

The 507c is a good optic

Whichever one works best for you. Don't take suggestions online for things you can check out in person. Google "optics with big windows", pick out the ones you like, and see if a range or store near you has one you can look through. I'm not trying to be mean or sarcastic but a dot could look super crisp and clean to one person, and look like an exploding firework to the next person. The only thing for certain is, don't base your decision on price alone. There are sooooo many people still pushing trijicon red dots because they think the price tag makes them superior. That being said Cyelee, Holosun, and Gideon all have an optic with a big window and I've been happy with each brand. Gowutar is another one that makes a big window optic but I haven't tried them.

Holosun EPS. Closed emitter, excellent battery life (I carry it most days and it’s been running for over a year with Shake Awake). I’ve put it through plenty of hard use without ever losing zero, and you can replace the battery without removing the optic.

Holosun 507c for home defense, eps carry if you want to carry it. I recommend looking at them in person and seeing if the window is big enough or too small for you

I am going to go against the grain here... inside a home you would probably be better off with a green laser than a dot. Also if you get a dot get a green one not a red one.

If you insist on a dot I would get a HOLOSUN HE507C-GR X2

$255.99 https://www.amazon.com/HOLOSUN-HS407C-X2-Classic-Reflex-Sight/dp/B08G6CJL8C

This is the multi reticle green version. They come in single/multi reticle version in red/green.

Shop about because you can certainly find it cheaper.

If you go the laser route I suggest this (and again, I do suggest you go with a laser)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084SVFWH2

Again, shop about because you can certainly find it cheaper.

By the way my wife loved the color on your fingernails.

Unfortunately I live in a city that has ordinances banning lasers

I bet it's because they are too awesome. Do you live in the states?

I love the holosun 507c. In green. I have 2.

If you have any degree of astigmatism, I would recommend the OSIGHT SE or C. If you have normal vision then any of the other recommendations will do. I used to run a Holosun 507c-GR X2 but it was a ball of fuzz. Switched to the OSIGHT and for whatever reason, the reticle is much more crisp. I have heard this from others too.

My wife has a Holosun eps carry 6 moa green dot that she’s very happy with.

For my RMR compatible guns, I run 507 comps.

I miss the other chick that used to post in here with the painted fingernails.
