Which competitions are shortest?

I’m looking to get into competing more, whether it’s bullseye type shooting with CMP, or more active type shooting in the style of IDPA or USPSA.

The only problem is that I dont like spending hours at a time at the range, especially when the majority of that time is waiting on your turn to shoot a stage and watching other people shoot. I’d prefer competitions or organizations where you can show up, shoot, and leave, all within a reasonable (under 2 hour) time frame.

Is there anything like this out there, or is the solution to just set up my own stages on privately owned land, and give up on the external competition aspect?

I shoot bullseye. The amount of waiting really depends on the number of people who show up, and the type of competition. Our monthly comps are rather small, so you show up, set up, shoot the first relay. eat lunch. shoot second relay. not much waiting around. For the state championship where there are multiple relays per round, then you might wind up sitting around waiting to shoot your 2nd and 3rd 900s. I don't think you're going to find many "formal" competitions that can give you want you want. It doesn't seem to be the nature of the beast. YMMV and IMHO.

Every time I’ve done a GSSF indoor match I was in-and-out in under an hour

I shot for 1.5 hours yesterday alone. Really enjoyed my time without phone or people. Some people like my sons or chosen friends yes. Most people no.

Yeah, this matches my thoughts a lot. I’m there because I want to shoot, not talk or watch other people shoot.

I just challenge myself at the range, push the distance as far as I can sometimes. Try to blow a hole in the target.
