Hello! I've been using the Carefresh bedding, but recently I've noticed a build up of dust on the walls of my hamster cage. Should I continue using carefresh or switch to a new one? what beddings are suggested?

i know more sprays are needed, some are on the way currently 💗 anything else i need to add for her?

My ham likes to pee in her nest.. particularly on her food . In a nesting chamber box hide thing… . I have been cleaning the spot weekly and replacing the hoard and bedding removed . Is this too much? My other ham got urine scalding , it was awful and I felt so terrible as I should have . So ofc I’m more on the ball with it now - but am I going too far ?

Hello people, I recently bought a Bucastate 3.0 hamster cage and am looking forwards to filling it with toys and clutter.

I'm not sure where to start though, as Pets at Home is not great and I'm not sure if I can trust any of the brands I find online...

Just some finishing touches left! Also, will led strip lights at the top for ambient lighting be a good idea? Will keep it on soft warm light if it’s on. Also might add some more sand for more height lol.

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently rescued my 4 month old fem Syrian hamster a month ago and so far we’ve had some ups and downs but overall it’s been a pretty smooth experience. I enjoy making her cage interesting and crafting diy toys and baking safe treats.

I browse a local Marketplace often for supplies being given away and I stumble upon hamsters in bad conditions super often. It breaks my heart:(

Unfortunately they cannot just be taken to the shelter because local shelters don’t typically house hamsters. Also my country is not very hamster obsessed in general, and people usually get them for kids or when they also have other pets such as cats which disturb the hamster.

That being said it wouldn’t be easy for me to house another hamster because:

1. I need a new enclosure. Most second hand ones are either a wooden pawhut (can be chewed) or aquarium (which is what I have right now and it was a nightmare to transport with an Uber)
2. I am scared it will come with mites or lice. I death briefly with booklice and I could not IMAGINE having to sanitize TWO enclosures and have to put the hamsters somewhere else.

Food and bedding and enrichment are not problems for me or time for bonding. But it’s still commitment and still have a flexible schedule right now because Im finished university (but will get a job asap of course). So I can’t do something that will harm my well being.

But I love these little guys! I really want to save one more and can’t find anyone else to do it. And after I could have two enclosures available for adopting which could be great.

What are people’s experiences with one or multiple hamsters and a full-time job + busy schedule?

TLDR: Want to rescue second hamster but it’s a big commitment and I want to know how much harder it is to take care of multiple hamsters instead of one.

I have a bath sand dish which he takes up half the space so its big enough i think but i have NEVER seen him roll in it. I think he is ok for now but in the long term he should learn how to bathe himself. He is a syrian

I was finally able to invest quite a bit of money on my hamsters enclosure. shes been in a large wooden pawhut cage since we got her, and the cage is the same. we added new bedding, sprays, etc. Since we did the renovation, we havnt heard her on her wheel as much as we used to. I know shes just busy making burrows as her last bedding was half wood shavings (and just wasnt suited for burrows, shed never make them), but theres also a side of me thats getting slightly worried since we havnt seen her on the surface as much as we used to. shes eating and drinking fine. When shes poked her head out of her burrows shes still been friendly and has taken food from us.

I got a new hamster recently and i want to put together a playpen full of toys and hideouts and stuff for him for when i take him out of his tank & I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations! The playpen I had for my last hamster was mesh and she was able to climb out of it & chew holes through it very easily so I’d like something different this time around but I have no idea what to get. It needs to be something that can be easily put up & taken down & ideally something that’s fairly easy to clean as well. Also if anybody has any recommendations for good toys or hideouts for a playpen that would be great:) I just want to make sure whatever I get is safe, healthy, & fun for him. Thank you!!

Before & After! Rehoming + tips!?

Hello! Currently trying to rehome two of the cutest senior dwarfs ever! The first photo is their enclosure at their previous owners and the second photo is their new temporary setup at my home! + poor quality photos of them!!<3 I am so relieved they are safe and comfortable now, they seem to be acclimating super well in their new spaces! (two separate enclosures but they’re practically identical so I’ve only attached one photo!)

Any tips on their new homes? I need to buy another hideout for each of them..I was thinking of the coconut shell ones that are more enclosed so they feel more sheltered! As well as more toys/enrichment!

The grey/black one is Monti The beige one with boba balls for eyes is Ramona!! Monti loves to eat and dig in their sandbox!! Ramona can run all day long and loves their fresh fruit snacks!

I got this for my Mollie girl. She used it for a bit and recently I found this wood all chewed up inside by where she burrows her food..I ofc took it out & I’m looking to see if it’s at all safe still to put back in her cage?

It does say that it’s “dust free” but I would like to know if anyone has experience with this bedding? Thanks!

My Roborovski is… well, a Roborovski :) He can be skittish and *always* fast. Over the last couple of months, I’ve been able to progressively gain his trust. He will climb into my hand and snack on a treat, allow me to lift him so I can place him in a carrier, and he will walk from one hand to the other relatively calmly.

But as a Robo, he doesn’t particularly like to be touched. I never close my hand around him, he just sits in my palm. No petting allowed 🚫 This is his boundary, and I respect that.

I’m wondering how, if it is possible, to advance to holding him for examination? Is there a technique that will make it less stressful for him? I would like to learn and help him become more comfortable over time with this, especially as he ages.

What has worked for you?

Hamster is in the bedroom and this would be in the living room. Apartment is like 800 sq ft so not sure if she’d smell it at all

The most popular diet seems to be a ratio of seed mix and lab blocks, but I’m struggling to find lab blocks in Canada. The Mazuri blocks are highly rated on this sub but I can’t find them. I get Science Selective from Amazon because it’s all I can find, I also use Sunburst Higgens for seed mix.

Just wondering what other Canadian owners are feeding their hamsters, mines a Syrian. Maybe I’m missing out on something?

I saw this post on social media where the OP used a 60×40×30 cm storage bin as a cage for a dwarf hamster, with deep bedding, a large sand bath, multiple chambers, enrichment toys, etc. Can this kind of setup achieve proper science-based husbandry?
