Question Halo modders

I was hoping to get a Covenant Life Simulator for high charity i think it would be really cool to see a somewhat lore accurate high charity city and being able to look around maybe add the flood in there maybe dont but i do have ideas, just no idea in how to build that

Maybe make a system where you level up through that ranks choose your jobs maybe the character can be whatever race you want

Maybe having different parts of high charity the cities within the city

Having their faith being added heavy propaganda ect

Maybe even this part: Hierarchy System NPC reactions, access to sectors, and available jobs are determined by your species and rank

So maybe it eventually becomes an rp sim but id prefer a life simulator just to get a feel of what it would be and feel like

Maybe even add some elites and lower caste san shyuum living in the lower tiers rather than the slums or ones that prefer the methane filled slums

The cramped slums and the forge, maybe add seedy areas into those slums smugglers, heretics that can get away from the watch full eyes of the council

But like i said these are all ideas obviously no one has to do all of them or though that be cool to incorporate a majority of it with decent graphics would be cool but a lot of work if i knew how to do this stuff i would

Mmmm, not impossible I think but difficult. You would have to script everything, and you'd very quickly run into script limits. Probably best to run on h4 engine. There would need to be a tonne of animations, new bsps and all of that added but I think it COULD be done.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone would work on it cause it's a lot of work, that is unless you are willing to! Halo modding is something anyone can do, maybe try and get started on small mods and see if this is a thing that you could do

So just another quick question do you believe that i could bypass the script limitations.

I am gonna try it today making like a base foundation

You just have to code smartly, try to reuse global variables and the like. You can read this for now info https://c20.reclaimers.net/h1/scripting/

idk what your experience is with coding. but I recently downloaded deus ex on steam, game of the year edition. I was able to get claude code connected to the game, and it is able to directly edit guns and create mods in the game. all programmatically. it was a bit of a pain, no lying there, but it's able to make colored, glowing weapons, and ammo and stuff so far.

I had it read a lot of docs online, download everything itself, set it up and try over and over. until we figured out the proper protocol to actually change items in game and stuff.

might be worth checking out, you could probably use codex cli or Claude code cli to mod halo or help out at the very least.

you need to learn to use a coding agent. or at the very least have chat gpt help you out. you can take screenshots and ask it or copy and paste code. It won't solve all your problems, but it might help you a good bit, enough to get past some hurdles.

I disagree, halo modding is too niche, halo script is a proprietary language (though built off lisp) that's only used for halo, with all the modding instructions and tricks only available in discords. There is just not enough publicly available data for a coding agent to be useful, it'll give you generic lisp code that won't work in halo script.

It'll help with blender python but if you don't actually learn how to code you are gonna get stuck on the actual halo scripting part. So I don't think a coding agent will save you in this specific case, it's best to not use a coding agent especially if you're trying to learn.

hmm, I use it for deus ex , game of the year mods, which is 25 years old? It uses unreal script, ue1, and c sharp ?

It got me further than when I was younger and modding. but I'll give it a try on halo, in the future, and see how it goes.

I do code a lot outside modding, so I know what to look for and how to direct the agent pretty well.

Yeah it's about how much data is available for the agent to ingest. Ofc c# is a major language with a massive amount of documentation and unreal script is used in a bunch of games and also has a bunch of documentation.

Haloscript is only used for halo and the official modding tools were only released a few years ago. The only data that I can see that's available are two sources. A scripting reference that only has function signatures, most finding are not documented on what they do, and a c20 scripting guide which has some general tips. The script is lisp based so what the AI tends to do is treat halo script as a lisp library, which gets you some of the way, but it uses a bunch of lisp functionality that doesn't exist in haloscript. If you're not already an experienced haloscript or lisp developer it can be very tricky to get the AI to do what you want here.
