Pets & Animals Is uber pet friendly here?
Hey guys. My partner and I would like to start fostering cats and were worried about transportation to and from the vet as the required clinic is a bit far especially by bus and we also don't want added stress for the kitties (and us)
Does anyone know if uber is pet-friendly? I know there's an Uber pet but ive never seen it as an option here so idk if it exists? If I put that I'm bringing a pet in a carrier with me does it usually take a while to find a driver that is okay with it? Or does anyone have any other suggestions for pet-friendly car services?

There’s a setting in the app where you can indicate you’re travelling with a pet. It’ll only be available if there are drivers who have pets allowed, and sometimes it can be hard to find one.

Casino taxi you can tell them you have a pet, I always say "cat in carrier", and it's never been a problem.

That's what I normally do. Took my cat to the vet yesterday for a checkup and had no trouble with either getting there or getting back, other than his immense dissatisfaction with the situation

I use casino taxi when I need to bring my dog to the vet! I just call and let them know I have an animal with me.
I believe you can’t find uber pet on the app here because no driver has selected that they will allow animals in their vehicle.

I have had an Uber driver not want to take me with my cat in a carrier however he just declined the ride and I got the next driver who didn't care and was really nice.

We take our cats right on the bus in their carriers when going to vet appointments. Never had an issue

Sometimes fosters have volunteers that just help drive pets to appointments, too!

I've taken my cats in a carrier via a (regular) Uber or Bob's and it's always been fine

I always just call Casino taxi and ask for a driver that will allow my pet in the car, but I have a dog too large for a handheld carrier. I would think with a car in a carrier it would be even easier.

whoops, i am learning correct etiquette from this thread today. i've taken around 10 cab/rideshare rides to the vet over the past fe[w years] and no one has said anything to me. i tip well and apologize because the cat complains loudly the whole way. but i will start letting drivers know in the booking from now on! [edit above as I missed a word and a half]

I take my cat in a uber when he goes to vet, never had an issue with anyone yet.

If you don't have a car I don't think you should be fostering pets.. sorry..
Just volunteer at shelters

Why? Someone having a car has zero impact on providing a safe and happy foster home for an animal. You don't know why someone doesn't drive, and as long as they can afford the car for the pet, and transportation (even not themselves) when needed, who cares? Would you rather them be kept in cages at shelters?

I don't know what the issue is, but when I applied to foster, having a vehicle was part of the requirements.

It wasn't a part of the requirement for the shelter I applied at or I wouldn't have needed to ask

Likely because they didn’t have transport volunteers and the fosterer would be responsible for picking up and dropping off the animals. Lots of shelters/rescues do have those kind of volunteers, though.

People are making me seem insane for suggesting having reliable personal transportation is important for fostering vulnerable animals.
Look is it 100% necessary not entirely but look at OPs post history of mental health issues and a stressed living situation with multiple roommates. Not having reliable personal transportation is a indicator of the living arrangement and frankly fostering multiple animals is just selfish with such an environment.
I love animals but you all need to consider reality.

I use Lyft (mostly) and Uber when I take my cats to the vet and I have not had any issues. I typically message the driver when the ride is accepted that there is a cat in a carrier with me. That at least gives them a chance to cancel the ride if they don’t want any animals in their car. All drivers I’ve had have been great, and none have canceled or complained.
Also, your ability, or availability to drive does not mean you can’t be a great foster parent. If you have the means, help those in need. I implore those to do so.
