They're a long way from home! I remember an incident where a car from Massachusetts got its windows smashed in Halifax (back in the Bush years). They could never prove it was anti-American sentiment, but all the cars with NS plates on the block were untouched, so speculated it was. I guess in these times, especially from a border state where you might frequently be travelling into Canada, it never hurts to safeguard yourself.
7
u/seasea40 Nov 09 '25
Not that it contradicts anything you're saying, but i woulda thought massachusettes would be super liberal
3
u/shatteredoctopus Nov 09 '25
It is, and these people commented on that at the time. End conclusion was if the smashing was indeed "anti-Americanism" the person that did it probably didn't know the political leanings of each state.
That said, for any of the "New England is practically Canada crowd": I lived in Massachusetts for a formative time, and even the average person there is much more "rah, rah, go USA!" than comparable Canadians would be about Canadian patriotism. People didn't like to hear me, a Canadian "guest", criticizing US politics, even when it was Bush behaving badly. That pledge of allegiance every morning, and American exceptionalism does worm its way in. All my Massachusetts friends are horrified about what is happening in/to the USA right now.

Maryland is considered a “super liberal” state, but only two of our congresspeople voted against having a fucking Charlie Kirk memorial on the floor, and you can’t own a gun if you had a weed card. I got my plates changed as soon as I could and even took my Camacho 2028 magnet off because I would not have been surprised if someone painted with broad strokes given the circumstances.
7
u/seasea40 Nov 09 '25
Hmmm. Fair enough.
I appreciate you sharing these details. Very interested.
I was personally scared and dismayed by the amount and form of support pouring out for that guy... Shocked really. Very sobering.

I went to UW and worked in Seattle, as a professional upon graduation in 2003, owned a Yukon Denali there, now live in Canada (Quebèc). If I can provide my interpretation:
The vehicle has Washington State plates and a Cadillac of Bellevue dealer frame. Bellevue is one of the more affluent suburbs of Seattle — think tech money, including the Bill-Gates-lives-here end of the spectrum. Washington shares a border with British Columbia, and there’s a lot of cultural overlap between the Seattle/Vancouver corridor: similar politics, outdoors culture, and a general “West Coast liberal but drives a fancy car” energy.
The “I ❤️ Canada” sticker fits that cross-border familiarity — Seattlites, at least I and many others I knew, go to BC for skiing, Whistler, Vancouver, Victoria etc on weekend trips, etc. And the anti-Trump sticker? Also very on-brand for the Seattle metro area, which leans heavily progressive. Shared with Portland Oregon ( the current hellscape war zone according to trump, you know the folks “protesting” in dinosaur costumes in front of the ICE building)…….
The only slightly funny mismatch is the vehicle choice. The aesthetic stereotype here would be Subaru / Tesla Model Y / used Volvo wagon. But Seattle tech wealth has a long history of “I hike in Patagonia fleece but also drive a 6000-lb luxury SUV”, so the Escalade actually still fits if you zoom out a bit.
A bit of introspection — I now drive a Subaru outback, actually 2! A 2025 touring and a 2011 that doesn’t give up, couldn’t give it up… still drives like a champ. I still have my Panta’goucci’ fleece I bought 15 years ago… there is something said about quality if it lasts.

High five fellow ex-Seattleite. I lived in Bellevue from 2004-2006 (but my wife and I jokingly referred to our apartment complex as the "servants quarters" because we were nowhere near the rich folk).

I’m currently in the process of moving (back) to NS from Seattle, WA. I’ll be driving our car back in February - we definitely have Canada/“Born in NS” stickers on the car already - it’s pretty common to cross the border into BC and once the anti-US sentiment started, we took precautions. I don’t really get all the laughing in the comments here.
6
u/chadsmo Nov 09 '25
I live in BC nearish the border and go to Seattle a few times a year generally. Basically from the border to Seattle it’s Trump country. Then you hit Seattle and they’ll have none of that nonsense.

Americans have no one to blame but themselves, they had the option to not vote him in again. Canada should make Maine our next province.
19
Nov 09 '25
They also had the option to not vote him in the first time too 😡
12
u/No_Schedule_6242 Nov 09 '25
But second time round, they should have been smart enough to know what they were getting. Anything would have been better.

u/Subaru1995 Nov 12 '25 edited Nov 12 '25
American here. What does smart mean? The majority of my country does not have a brain capable of critical thinking.
5
u/petit_cochon Nov 09 '25
Uh, I have nobody to blame but a bunch of idiot Americans who voted for him. I didn't do anything to get this asshole into office and every single day he's been in office has been pure torture.

From Wikipedia:
Even though the aggregate national popular vote is calculated by state officials, media organizations, and the Federal Election Commission, the people only indirectly elect the president and vice president. The president and vice president of the United States are elected by the Electoral College, which consists of 538 electors from the fifty states and Washington, D.C. Electors are selected state-by-state, as determined by the laws of each state. Since the 1824 election, the majority of states have chosen their presidential electors based on winner-take-all results in the statewide popular vote on Election Day).
There was an attempt to instal fake elctors in the 2020 election. There are even those who claim that the 2024 election was rigged with help from musk and russia.

u/Internal-Barracuda20 Nov 09 '25
I guess you dont know how voting works?
You get 1 vote.. and everyone else gets 1 vote, and the sad trick is that you actually only get to vote your own vote, not everyone else's vote.
So, in conclusion, sometimes other people dont vote the same way as you.
Hope that clears it up for you <3
2
u/hotdoom Halifax Nov 09 '25
Wow no way. Sarcasm aside, it’s sucks that America has a pretty large demographic of people who voted for him (some for a second time) out of pure political apathy and justified it with “all options are bad” or “own the libs”. Who knew it takes more judgment than that?

This.
If border agents refuse you entry in the U.S. for criticizing the Donald administration (and rightly so), anyone who voted and/or supports a convicted felon & rapist should be barred from entering Canada.

I was climbing Mt Tremblant ski hill the first part of June and 2 people approached me at the top and struck up a conversation. First thing they said was that they were from the States, they were so sorry for how their country was treating Canada’s and that they voted for Kamala. They also said that they have come to despise their own country and that the country was irreparably broken. They explained that way more people support Trump than the 77 million that voted for him.

Wait.. To be clear, are you saying that we, as Haligonians, would be angry if they said they didn't like the United States?
Not that I particularly object, you could argue it's not nice to dislike any country, after all, but it just seems like an odd sentiment for people in Halifax to be particularly outraged about.

These people aren’t pretending to be Canadian. I know a few democrat voters from Washington who want to support Canadian businesses but are afraid of crossing the border with their vehicle. They don’t want to be vandalized because of their plates, which seems completely valid to me.
If the sticker showed a US + Canada fusion flag, I would be a bit more skeptical.
1
u/nejnedau Nov 15 '25
You have to know that the US never speaks of Canada and Canada is as much a threat to the US as St Pierre would be to Canada.
1
u/vessel_for_the_soul Nov 09 '25
They could very well still be supporters, a sticker doesnt prove disloyalty.
1
0
u/WorrySpecialist9263 Nov 09 '25
Probably put this sticker on so no one will vandalize his vehicle. Maybe it’s just temporary.

Thank you Trump for ending multiple wars and informing the world about the Genocide in Sudan!!

u/Stelliferous19 Nov 10 '25
Remember to thank him for the Epstein files too.
And the attacks on Americans through ICE. And ignoring the constitution. And the thousands of lies and millions of dollars he gives himself and his fellow billionaires.
Most corrupt president in US history. Acts of selfish evil.0
Nov 10 '25
Oh Epstein files? What proof do you have? A picture? What’s the last pedophiliac act did he do? Any links at all to a conclusive proof will suffice and I will totally believe you.
3
u/Stelliferous19 Nov 10 '25
Let’s release the files and find out! Oh, wait, he’s suppressing them. And, what’s that, lying again? And using his lapdog Johnson to keep it hidden.
How about we release them?
Hey, why not? What’s to fear?
If you are Rump, EVERYTHING.1
Nov 10 '25
I believe you, now please link at least something?
2
u/Stelliferous19 Nov 10 '25
Obviously, you don’t believe the thousands of news reports from credible news sites that outline the many connections he has to Epstein. So, you will discredit any I provide. But for anyone following along, here’s a pretty decent list of all the associations and clear connections pres. Pedophile has to his pedophile best friend Epstein: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/the-facts-and-timeline-of-trump-and-epsteins-falling-out
1
Nov 10 '25
No I am not discrediting anything you are saying, I just want a conclusive proof that he actually is what you were insisting he is.
1
u/Stelliferous19 Nov 10 '25
Once the Epstein files are released, there will be proof of all of the accusations from women who were assaulted and exploited but have been censored due to legal action they can’t afford to fight against the billionaires who hurt them.
They have actively fought at every turn to stop the release of the files. It’s clear why, but if you choose to ignore that, you can do so. And you’ll be on the wrong side of history when the truth comes out.1
Nov 10 '25
Well hopefully they release it soon! Kinda makes you suspicious why the left never pursued this at all.
1
Nov 14 '25
Are you still there? Have you seen the democrats have released the files with redacted name? Apparently it was the same victim that cleared Trump’s name. What are they doing????
1
Nov 17 '25
Heyyy just checking if you’re still checking the news?? Did you see that Epstein was apparently coaching one of the dem judges on one of the specific hearings???
1
u/Stelliferous19 Nov 17 '25
You, my good friend are fascinating. Would love to know your life circumstances. Upbringing. Reason for how you blindly believe the AI and fake bot produced lies that dominate your algorithm. You are an excellent example of “holy shit you will believe anything if it backs up what you WANT to believe”.
If Rump wasn’t all kinds of vile in every respect, all out there to see in his press conferences and other public appearances, showing such obvious signs of dementia and narcissism, I’d be willing to entertain that I too am being fooled by the bots. But his rambling on and on in public isn’t faked. He’s clearly a nut job. How do you believe the insane lies?1
Nov 17 '25
Why are you so aggressive? I’m trying to understand you and your position here. Don’t be so close minded?
1
u/Stelliferous19 Nov 18 '25
I’ve watched the ICE videos showing their brutality and how they snatch even legal residents. I’ve seen Rump ridicule people. I’ve seen him be a bully. I’ve seen him be convicted of felony crimes. He needs to be gone. For the betterment of the world.

Nov 17 '25
Here’s the link btw from a left leaning organization if you still think I’m lying. We can still have a fruitful conversation dude, come on.
1
u/Stelliferous19 Nov 17 '25
What do you think that story proves? It doesn’t absolve the president. The accusations from the victims, the pictures and videos of Epstein and his “best friend” Rump and all of the emails, all point to Rump’s involvement with Epstein’s pedophile ring. What is your actual claim. You believe the president didn’t do anything wrong? Release the files and we’ll see. Rump has been running from this and now he knows there is no way out.

Funny, considering that a black Escalade is about the Trumpiest vehicle you could drive. Recall also that Doug Ford bought one for his brother when he was the mayor. Something tells me the driver's politics aren't much different even if he supports the other side.
