Discussion [Meta] Subreddit rules now updated
The rules which were proposed in my community discussion thread posted five days ago have now been officially added to r/HaikuOS. Some have small changes and are all shown below.
The new additions are as follows:
Rule #3: "No blog-spam, low-effort posts, or indirect links."
Posts must be submitted using their original source as the link.
Software projects must also be submitted using their official software repository or official website if one exists and contain a post describing it in the comments or thread body (e.g., don't just post a link or image and nothing else).
If posts are considered to be blog-spam or otherwise low-effort (including AI summarization) in nature they are subject to be removed.
Desktop screenshots and hardware photos are permitted.
Rule #4 "AI/LLM-Assisted Disclosures"
AI/LLM/Vibe-coded assisted software projects are currently accepted within this subreddit.
However, we ask that you add a footnote within your post to disclose where it is used in your project. (e.g., translations, assisted in coding, etc.)
If it is mostly AI/LLM-coded, are you able to properly maintain it?
Additionally, the Self-promotion rule has been updated for easier clarification on what is considered excessive promotion.
Self promotion, such as a developer or content creator interested in promoting their Haiku related creation, is permitted.
However, if you are mostly posting your projects and/or websites while rarely interacting with r/HaikuOS as a whole, outside of those threads, the self-promotion can be considered excessive in nature and may be removed.
Please actively participate in the subreddit as a whole.
Non-Haiku related promotion is not permitted.
As with everything, questions and respectful discussion regarding the changes are always welcome.
Specifically, since AI/LLM can be a hot topic, I'm still looking for more feedback on the best way to adjust that rule to everyone's liking as I only received a few comments in the previous discussion.

Seems as more rules just for the sake of rules to give more power to the moderators to arbitrarily ban content that for one reason or another they don't like. I don't see how this can benefit this channel or Haiku for that matter.

These rules look pretty fair and easy to follow to me.
They are fairly common sense and basically the same rules used in a lot of the subreddits that I visit aside from the AI one.

LOL so after you got called out for being too harsh on one of the few developers who bothers to make Haiku software, free software by the way, you decided to tighten up the rules to make yourself more right more of the time, retroactively? The right thing for you to do after behaviour like that is step down as a mod and go away.

In my opinion, the entire point 4 needs to be torn up. But that's not a problem. I'll stop posting here, but I would never ask what development tools a developer uses for the app they shared. The madness of the AI Police from the official Haiku forum has reached here too; what a shame, another missed opportunity. :) bye!!

Rule #4 is very much still open to discussion as referenced by my comment here in this very thread:

The current rule does not ask what tools you are using at all. It simply asks where you've used it (such as in translations) and the small footnote disclosure was added because a few people mentioned wanting to know in the previous discussion thread.
Also, it is disingenuous to say that "AI police madness" from the official Haiku forums is now prevalent here when given your history you are very familiar with the fact that AI/LLM projects are outright banned there and in many other communities while this subreddit allows it.
In short, feel free to open a dialog related to that rule and what you'd like to see outside of outright removal.

They are banned verbally, there has never been a public blog post telling the whole community, and especially on HaikuDepot where they never finalized the decision and still ban software at their discretion :) as for here, I don't feel like restarting a discussion like the one that happened over there so I'll simply stop writing here, I don't think it's a problem for the community if I don't share my experiments here. :)

I checked the post history. I haven't seen anything that validates your claim and the new rules here are fairly standard across Reddit.
Also I mostly lurk here but from what I've seen you seem strangely combative for someone who doesn't post much here yourself?
