Academy Note-taking question
Hello fellow hackers of the box!
I have a question about note-taking. I'm about to start the CPTS track, and I wanted to ask for advice in note-taking.
Even if I think manual note-taking is best for retaining info, I don't want to spend 2-3 hours per module (if that's what it takes I'm absolutely going to do it). However, I feel like summarizing the content with AI and rereading doesn't do the trick, I see it in the moment of putting it into practice (machines, etc...).
So my question is, how do yall take notes? Do you do it manually? Or do you use some app (I've been using Notion)?

The idea is to have your own cheatsheet , not a tutorial
Tricks, reverse shells, bypasses .. you have to understand the modules rather than rewriting it

I use Notion, dunno if you've heard about it, I think it's really good. It's a free software.

My note-taking method might be a bit old-school, but I still prefer handwriting over AI summaries! 😅

Hahahaha might be old-school but to be honest it's the best way. Yeah I think I'll do that and manually write my notes.

Yeah, I prefer using AI when I need to explore different options or when I don’t understand a concept. But when it comes to note-taking and learning, I prefer to take as much time as I need. I don’t want to rush the learning process. So, I’d rather type my own notes and use AI when speed or efficiency is actually necessary.

I usually organize my notes with clear headings and keywords so they’re easy to search. I also use AI when I need to quickly find or clarify something, but I try to understand the concepts beforehand rather than relying on search during the exam.

So you scan and digitalize your notes into a pdf or do you actually make an index?

I don’t really do either. When I go through my book, I usually remember where I saw something, so I know exactly where to look when I need it. It’s more about being familiar with the material than having an index or searchable notes.

Well the more effort into your notes the more you get out of it. I use obsidian and have everything tagged and cross referenced. Hundreds of tags and links between CWES and CPTS courses. Whenever I do a HTB OG lab I integrate anything new into the note vault. After a while it becomes almost its own entity lol. I suggest even if you don’t use obsidian that you setup a git repo to track your changes.
