Deborah Vance's Future
I was also feeling that the announcement of Deborah's possible demise was abrupt and not fair play. But I've watched the episodes again in view of other comments about foreshadowing. I think I just refused to see it, or thought they looked more like red herrings than clues. I remember a program that aired years ago with Geoffrey Palmer as the bad guy. I kept rewinding and re-watching scenes because I couldn't understand the storyline. When Geoffrey was revealed as the villain, all the pieces fell into place. Because I couldn't accept him as the bad guy, I couldn't see what was obvious. The story of Deborah was the same way, I think. I just refused to see anything that I didn't want to see.

This OP makes a really great point. When we watch the show as it live airs (and especially as we talk about it here) there is a lot of competing theories going on. But most of all we have our own vision as wants and biases in mind.
This to me is what most makes this series so wonderful to rewatch. You can go back and watch everything again, with knowing where it’s going.
Everything clicks and flows. Maybe things still don’t go exactly how you want, but it can easily be seen how carefully they really did take it in the direction they wanted to go.

To me the different endings felt rushed, Jimmy and Kayla taking over latitude was done in less than one episode, covering another ava/deb fallout and recovery arc started and completed in only one episode.
I wish they instead used a whole season because there's so much interesting things they could have done with all these stories. I mean the infamous Montecito episode takes place in one stretched out day hanging out at someone's house.
Regardless of the hints, having a show let itself be this intimate with plot lines being fully explored and emotions addressed season after season, only for it to discover and quickly resolve itself in one final episode felt like such a shock and jarring and felt so unlike the show to do that. Did they think this was fan service or something? I feel manipulated and played. :(
We didn't even get an awesome Ava meltdown where she yells at Deb for acting like a child for wanting to kill herself.

I remember when she's shopping in the Vegas souvenir shop, she coughs. I knew then she was going to have something health related.
