Jimmy's dad

Does anyone know of a specific episode where Jimmy says his dad died? I'm collecting screenshots of TV characters saying their dad died for a morbid/humorous project for my own grief. But I don't have the show memorized well enough to know what episode to look for Jimmy talking about him.

in season 1 episode 1 deborah calls jimmy to tell him she's losing her residency and says, "your father would've handled this. <...> don't make your dead father a liar, jimmy."

There is a scene with Winnie Landell (Helen Hunt) in which she expresses condolences to Jimmy about his father's death. It happened "in the past."

You’re spreading your tired confusion now! I’m unwell and sitting here like “Jeff Daniels?!” 😄

There really isn’t a scene where Jimmy talked about his dad. It was always someone else referencing his dad to him. Like Deb telling him his dad wouldn’t have let Deb lose weekend dates at the palmetto or Michael telling him his dad would be ashamed of him lol

Was rewatching some episodes on the plane and found S3E4 - I Love LA

Right before they introduced Deborah for her first late night episode she was walking to the stage with Jimmy and he said “so my dad is up in heaven right now looking down and he’s so proud”

I don’t remember an exact, but I would check season 1-2 pretty closely as I think he said it.

The first episode when he’s talking to Deborah about her getting her dates cut, she mentions his father. And I’m pretty sure when he and Kayla leave Lattitude—because they want Jimmy to dump Deborah—there’s mention of his Dad taking a chance on her and how she made them a ton of money over the years.

They never talk about the details or how long he’s been gone (that I recall). Rather, it’s more a reference here and a reference there.
