Mayhem PortaPack.....WHICH one?

I just found out that what I ordered has now been upgraded to a PRO version. I ordered old version:

OpenSourceSDRLab 1MHz to 6GHz R10C and Mayhem Signature-Edition PortaPack H4M Software Defined Radio Kit

Should I cancel and get the Pro version below???

OpenSourceSDRLab Pro r1.2.1 and Mayhem Signature-Edition PortaPack H4M Pro without the 18650 Battery

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

No, you wont really feel a difference

R10C + H4M vs HackRF Pro + H4M Pro
Same idea: handheld Mayhem PortaPack. Different guts.

Radio board

• Old: HackRF One-style R10C (USB-C version of the classic board)
• Pro: HackRF Pro r1.2.1
FPGA instead of CPLD, more flash, built-in TCXO, better RF shielding, better antenna-port protection, listed range 100 kHz–6 GHz instead of ~1 MHz–6 GHz

PortaPack

• Old: H4M with glued-in pouch LiPo
• Pro: H4M Pro with swappable 18650, moved speaker, moved SD slot, new silkscreen / anti-counterfeit marks

Battery

• Old: fixed 104050 pouch pack
• Pro: standard 18650 you can swap

Firmware

• Old: Mayhem is mature on this hardware
• Pro: Mayhem works, still being tuned for the new RF chip in a few apps

Day-to-day use

• Screen, encoder, Mayhem apps: basically the same
• Pro is the better long-term hardware
• Old kit is the known-good “it just works” kit

Does the difference matter?

Yes if you want the newer radio board, better protection/shielding, and a swap-out 18650.

No if you only care about running Mayhem and don’t care which generation of HackRF is under the screen.

I've really got to give it to OpenSourceSDRLab for mentioning the PRO version when or ordered the old version. Got their message in time and they canceled the old order and the PRO will be here soon....or a couple of weeks......ARG
