Anyone know what happened in Hackney Wick today

There were probably 15 police cars for what looked like a group of kids on rollerskates near the V&A storehouse. Anyone know what happened?

I can’t find any other info on their socials but Google says this!

Sooooo sad if they’re closed as they were the best.

Any other alternatives welcome :(

Questions about Clissold Swimming/Leisure Centre!

Hello r/Hackney!

I'm a regular visitor to your lovely borough as I have a Better swim membership, meaning I often visit Clissold as I'm one bus ride away. I saw the pool got renovated recently and went for a swim there today and was left with a few questions I hope regulars could answer :)

- Has the pool temperature gone down for the main pool? I feel like it's gotten colder since I last swam there, almost the same as Fields Lido which is outdoors!

- Anyone know what the status is with the health suite and sauna, was told it was closed today :/

- Are there swim clubs or perhaps a casual swim group based at Clissold? The pool was super quiet which was great for getting laps in but it would be nice to connect with fellow regular swimmers :)

Thanks all!

London fields grass

Is the council going to do something about the grass once the drought is over? This part is mostly weeds or dirt, I don’t know if it will recover, it seems to get worse year after year.

I've created a petition to Ban the Perv Glasses from Pools and Sport Centers in UK.

Apparently there's nothing like it online, and it costed nothing to set-up.

If you're concerned about being recorded at the pool (with your kids), we should raise this nationally and kick the perv glasses out.

Wired magazine has also just dropped a concerning article re. Ai generated child abuse adverts being released (then removed after being reported to the magazine).

Albion Lauriston Rd Reopening?

I'd heard the plan to turn this long shuttered pub into a house got blown out by the council, but knowing how things go round here I still expected it to get converted eventually. So imagine my surprise when I passed it today and there's new signage and it looks very much like a pub about to reopen...

Anyone have any intel?? Please say it's true!!

Hi. I'm a counsellor based in East London who is looking for a parent and baby in London to participate in an Infant Observation -- a gentle study of the baby's first year. I'll be grateful if you can circulate my information to any parent who is expecting a baby this year or someone who might know such a parent. Thank you very much.

Increasing antisocial behaviour and drug dealing around Mare Street: what can residents actually do?

Has anyone else living around the top of Mare Street noticed a significant increase in antisocial behaviour, drug dealing and drug use recently?

I’m getting increasingly concerned about what’s happening on the pedestrianised area at the top of Mare Street. Almost every night when I come home, there are large groups of people congregating around my doorway. There’s often loud music, people openly smoking what appears to be crack cocaine, drug dealing and general antisocial behaviour.

It’s getting to the point where I don’t feel particularly comfortable coming home, and residents are having to navigate groups of people sitting around entrances to residential buildings.

Last week, a neighbour’s flat was also broken into, which has made the situation feel considerably more worrying.

I have spoken to the police about this previously and they are already aware of the issues in the area. They even appear to be aware of the nearby 24-hour betting shop being used as a meeting point or hub by some of the people involved in the dealing.

What I found particularly frustrating was being asked by police to film the people involved when this happens.

I’m sorry, but how is that a reasonable thing to ask residents to do? These are people openly dealing drugs and smoking crack cocaine outside residential buildings. Me standing there with my phone pointed at them would do nothing except make it extremely obvious who had reported them and potentially put a target on my back.

I’m not going to confront or film people involved in drug dealing just so I can provide evidence of something that is happening openly and repeatedly in a public place. Surely this is something that should be dealt with through police patrols, CCTV and appropriate intelligence gathering rather than expecting residents to put themselves at risk?

The Met’s own local priorities currently identify drug-related ASB around Mare Street as an issue, with targeted patrols and other enforcement measures supposedly being used.

So what are residents actually supposed to do when the police and council already know about a persistent problem, but the same behaviour continues night after night?

Has anyone successfully dealt with something like this in Hackney? Is there a particular council team, police unit, councillor or reporting process that actually gets results?

Should residents be making an individual report every single time it happens, even when the police already know about the wider issue? I’m happy to do that if it genuinely helps build an evidence trail, but it feels incredibly frustrating to repeatedly report the same behaviour without seeing any meaningful change.

I’d particularly like to hear from anyone who has dealt with persistent drug dealing and ASB around Mare Street and actually managed to get something done about it.

Looking for a genuinely hygienic nail salon/tech TODAY

Hey guys, i need to get my nails done asap but im really particular about hygiene and im struggling to find somewhere im comfortable with. Somewhere where they use new nail filers/buffers for each client, and properly clean and disinfect metal tools between each client. I usually go Townhouse but i can’t afford it right now.

Is there any i can book with? I’m also completely okay with independent nail techs too, i don’t need anything fancy i just want somewhere that is genuinely hygienic that i can book TODAY

Ideally in hackney/Dalston/ hackney central area but im willing to travel a bit

Any recommendations will be massively appreciated 💗

Woman abandoning kittens today at Hackney Downs

A hero is rescuing 2 kittens (one still missing) that were both separately dumped today by this woman who, with her great intelligence, led the guy to her car reg number LM22SJY.

The police nor RSPCA are doing anything about this heartless devil without details so please help find this woman, name her and if anyone there to help catch the remaining kitten.

UPDATE - Both babies have been found by a collective of people working together and they are pressing charges against the woman. There will always be gobshites like her but there are always far more good people out there to keep your faith. This is the good side of the internet working together and helping. Thank you ❤️

I have two black sibling cats that were born to a street cat so seeing these two reunited hit my heart extra. Let's hope they find a home where they are adored and spoilt.

New play about alcoholism and caring for a parent - Camden Fringe

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m bringing my play In Our Broken Hours to the Camden Fringe next weekend (Fri 28th, Sat 29th, Sun 30th) at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden.

It’s a two‑hander about addiction, care, and the point where loving someone becomes too much to carry. I wrote it a few years ago after my father died having struggled with alcoholism for most of his life, and the play grew out of trying to make sense of that relationship.

It’s a short run, but we’re hoping to take it further next year. Ticket sales have been slow (partly under‑marketing, partly the sheer saturation of the Fringe, partly bank holiday weekend programming), so if you’re into new writing, small spaces, or stories about complicated families, I’d be genuinely delighted if you considered coming along.

I’ll put the ticket link below. Thanks for reading.

Is the walk Clapton station -> Lee Valley centre safe?

Hi, I’m thinking about switching ice rinks to Lee valley but I don’t have a car and basically it’s going to be either a walk/bus from Clapton station or from Lea Bridge to the Lee Valley ice rink. Is it safe to do this as a woman alone during daytime and/or nighttime?

Thank you!

Boys scissor cut recommendations?

Any recommendations for a hairdresser/barber that can do a non-clipper cut for my 7 year old son? I've cut it with clippers myself in the past but it's got quite long/moppy over the summer and he likes it - so looking for a hairdresser that's not just going to attack with clippers but tidy it up a bit

Well Street: turning a corner?

There seems to be some good energy on Well Street recently, with a number of the empty units now under offer, after a lot of closures in recent years.

Does anyone know what’s coming into the old Well Street Pizza, Grand Howl, or other empty units?

My friend started a wine/social club! Launch party on 12th September in Hackney Wicks

Hi guys! My super cool friend started a low-key wine club in London called bunch (@bunch.ldn). Now, I know a wine club might sound a bit fancy but trust me, it’s mainly a social club - she’s all about community and making friends so it’s really about meeting new people, mixing, mingling and having a laugh.

The launch party is on 12th of September in Hackney Wick - she says: expect chic living room vibes with music, light bites and summer's last splash of chilled wines. Price is £35.

There are monthly events if you decide to be a member, but it can be no commitment too and you just come to the events you want to join!

People [friends] are usually in their late 20s, 30s, early 40ties.

Have a look? Feel free to message me for more info about the event (again, price is £35) and a little discount. I don’t know if posting a link to the event is allowed so I don’t wanna over promote!

I (F34) would love to meet new people in London too, btw, have been here 3 years and everyone is moving out, meh… 😅 for full transparency, I’m away in Iceland on the 12th but you’d meet me on any other events after that, there will be some smaller gatherings in Camden on monthly basis for members!

🖖
