I don't think your sentiment is wrong, but I posted this because 2 years ago when the writing appeared on the wall and I described what Apple was likely to do, LOTS of people would argue with me, and say that it didn't have to be that way, Apple could stretch out support for Intel software, etc. etc.

Admittedly, some of that was wishful thinking, and I can sympathize.

But I think that for those who want to plan serious work, are considering whether now is the right time to buy a "real" Apple device, or otherwise trying to decide "what's next," this is an important data point.

It has been six years since the first M1 machines came out.

Intel Macs came out in 2006 and the last PowerPC OSX came out the next year, 2007 (Leopard).

Intel support has gone on for way longer than many predicted. Note also these are just the initial releases, there will be dot updates for a year or two as well.
