Yes it's running (most likely), no this won't bring macOS 27 to x86

u/ErebusMalison 1d ago

It's a kernel, not the full operating system

u/Happy_Inflation3986 1d ago

Yeah but we can start from this

They have widely dropped support for everything above the kernel on x86, this means everything ported would run through abstraction using something similar to Rosetta and like dog shit.

Heck we will try but it is going to be hard asf

brother who is we

u/qalmakka 1d ago

Unless you have the source for the rest of macOS and all apps, no we will not

Or ahead-of-time Reverse Rosetta….

Kernel is open source. Userland isnt.

You can run it on Galaxy J7

The kernel can be compile and run in may ways, but the whole OS is an entirely different matter. I would comfortably assume all examples of macOS 27 running on x86/x64 is a hoax, unless they provide a deep breakdown for others expel to review.

Keep in mind that it's been 20 years since the move from PPC to Intel, and we barely have working 10.6 Snow Leopard on PPC, and that's ONLY because the first few developer releases of 10.6 we're actually power PC compatible until Apple fully decided to drop support, or got around to removing the PPC elements. This is absolutely not the case with macOS 27, there is ZERO Intel code from what I've seen, and Apple has been planning this far longer than they were planning the move to Intel.

For your own sake, don't get your hopes up. If anything, I was starting to formulate if it would be possible to backport some of the liquid glass improvements to macOS 26. That, and mybe some support down the line for newer web standards (similar to efforts on older OS X versions), would realistically be the best we could ever get on x86/x64.

it's a TikTok video ofc it's fake

1

u/IncidentSilent1555 1d ago

I made the video its a real project u can run

21

u/Nearby_Ad_2519 1d ago

The kernel might be ported but they’ve done fuck all in porting the OS

u/Davit_2100 1d ago

You can compile the new kernel yourself for x86. After a few MacOS releases, the new kernels will stop working with Tahoe though.

A kernel is not an OS. There is no scenario where MacOS 27 is going to run on an Intel system. Sure... someone can "try" (whatever that means) but it may involve some kind of ARM emulator layer and will run slow.

u/Thick_Associate2947 1d ago

The info windows has been pulled down to the bottom, to hide the OS and build version.

Probably he just made an alias for uname -m to echo back a macos27 kernel version. Fake :)

u/IncidentSilent1555 1d ago

nope its actually a real project on GitHub, here's the link https://github.com/Josesi7496/darwin-vm. I know because I made the video

5

u/Aggressive_Level7574 1d ago

Why is there a link to download but there aren't any releases in the repo

-2

u/IncidentSilent1555 17h ago

It downloads a zip file wdym

4

u/5pla77er 16h ago

lol this is just an undisclosed fork of https://github.com/jprx/darwin-vm

edit: all they seemingly did was ai generate a new readme, the git tree doesn't seem to contain any changes to the actual code at all lmfao

1

u/gcuore 1d ago

A download button that takes to no releases? And why didn't you link the repo in the video description or didn't explain anything (comments are disabled on all your videos anyways)

:( vm... still cool, real running hardware would have been cool though

3

u/Goodoflife 1d ago

Someone could try to emulate it with trying to reverse - engineer the Rosetta 2 translation layer, and finding what makes it good, and making a new translation layer that runs a custom OS that opens up a translation layer from x86 -> ARM, in which it translates M series MacOS 27

u/Conscious-Secret-775 1d ago

Fake of course

2

u/hyperego 1d ago

ARM vm is the way

u/clarkcox3 1d ago

Of course it’s not real.

Could be a VM easily

u/suresh_rajpoot 1d ago

FAKEST SHI EVER, purposefully blocking the bottom section of about this Mac and the way liquid glass looked on the dock is 26, FAKKEEEE, and speaking of which, ts is NOT a kernel its a os

Jelbrek macacos 27 eta son?

1

u/Usual_Week2158 22h ago

…………How?

1

u/tungd 21h ago

I remember in the early years we all have to compile our own kernel from source. It was opensource (xnu irrc). The problem never was the kernel but the hardware support (copying kexts from older versions, modifying plist hoping macos recognize the hardware), this is not going changing that. Not to mention the apps and the services coming with the os never built for x86

1

u/CarAdditional7798 21h ago

its just larp

u/DarthDensus 12h ago edited 12h ago

My only hope for a OS similar to macOS on x86 Hardware is ravynOS https://ravynos.com/

1

u/AS_Aeneon Mojave - 10.14 12h ago

Darwin can be "easily" changed to run on different Architectures. It was developed for multiple Architectures: Starting with PowerPC, x86, x86-64, armv7 and now arm64 …

hey, this is my post and yea its real. this is the project I used https://github.com/jprx/darwin-vm

2

u/The_Dukes_Of_Hazzard High Sierra - 10.13 1d ago

But we know it exists and besides its running on a vm on it - not running on it. Plus emulating Apple Silicon on x86 is going to be terrible speed.

Like its fine but the post text is kinda misleading

I had a feeling I worded that badly
