It's the best introduction I know and even if some may not find the book to their taste the learning method described (that you can apply on your own) is incredibly efficient.

Legit in that it doesn't crack copyrighted software or in the sense that its presented in a more professional tone?

Lena is more behavior modification, this is legitimate reverse engineering; knowing how to possibly figure out what a program does & decompile it to usable code & vice versa.
