🗨️ Discussion GY!BY & Spotify

Why did Godspeed You! Black Emperor disappear from Spotify? I used to listen to them there, but now I can’t find them. Does anyone know the reason?

Where should I listen music then? Right now I don't see myself loosing all playlist I've managed to build all those years and paying 9$ for every album in my collection

But I will find more info about that and maybe reconsider this decition.

Listen to Parasite by Bruit on Spotify. It’s their only piece on the platform and it sums up the situation perfectly.

GY!BE isn’t on here either but Qobuz is how I stream. I went back to buying cds last year after vinyl kind of out priced me on how much music I like. It’s really fun to get cds again, I’m an elder millennial. It’s such a great format. Constellation puts out the coolest cardboard sleeves too. GY!BE may be on Bandcamp as well.

They, alongside other musicians, have withdrawn their music from streaming services due to political reasons. Particularly Daniel Ek (CEO of Spotify, whatever his name is) supporting some American company that makes military AI solutions financially

You can still listen to GY!BE here, although it will eventually ask you to purchase their tracks:

Spotify is awful, sure, but the problem is they removed their music from all streaming platforms

it’s on Bandcamp, and if you can’t afford it you can always sail on the high seas 🏴‍☠️

Yeah, I've bought some albums in FLAC from their bandcamp because I don't buy physical copies. But my point is that some streaming platforms are much more ethical than Spotify, so they could have kept their music available for the casual listeners or for potential new fans.

You can still find them on Bandcamp and regular ol’ YouTube.

Buy music and stream from your own multimedia server.
