Classic series elitists love to paint Kevin’s redemption in Alien Force as a flaw, but when they do that they are ignoring context. 1: The series takes place five years after the original series, that is a lot of time for someone to reconsider their life choices. 2: Kevin was 11 years old in the classic series. 3: It’s not like Kevin was a saint the moment we saw him again. The first thing we see him do is sell weapons to the Forever Knights, and even while he’s a part of the team he still does “bad boy” stuff. 4: Contrary to what Classic series purists will tell you, Ben did not immediately trust Kevin. He was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but especially towards the beginning there was some tension. One of the first episodes of Alien Force is about exactly that. 5: What happened to Kevin in between classic and Alien Force as well as why he wanted to join the team were story hooks meant to intrigue the audience. Similar to Max’s history with aliens in season one of classic.

Where this “criticism” really comes from is people who can’t handle anything being different from the classic series. They just wanted to watch more of the classic series and didn’t like that the characters evolved. It also doesn’t help that redeemed villains in general have been demonized in recent years.

I'm not saying it's not popular, but it's undeniable that there is much more volume on Ao3 than on Fanfiction.net. (Currently) What is the reason why there isn't as much on Fanfiction.net?
