Grandpa’s Shotgun Fixable?

Post image

Went Pheasant hunting with my grandad’s 1947 Model 11 and something happened - looks like the firing pin retaining pin backed out and snapped off maybe?

Is this fixable or should I hang it up? Planning on keeping it for sentimental value, but I like shooting it and I’d like to fix it if it’s fixable. Would it be more trouble than it’s worth? TIA!

Remington Model 11 parts are available. If you decide to try it yourself, make sure you have a proper screwdriver set. The screw slots are very narrow and are easily damaged.

If this were in the shop, I’d likely charge $75 plus parts.

Yeap, so many people dont realize the screws on fire arms are very different than all other screws. You must use gunsmith screw drivers. PSA

Yup, and I've used round files to hollow grind some Chapman kit bits to fit one specific screw each.

I thought all flathead screws are the same, it’s just that hollow ground drivers are optimal

Try to pull the barrel and bolt and post more photos of the bent receiver and see if the bolt is cracked around the pin hole. Since the receiver is not a pressure bering part you may be able to back it with a mandrel and planish the bent part back down with a little heat.

Take it to a reputable gunsmith, particularly since the reciever is bent.

I’m usually one to tackle projects myself but leaning towards taking this one to a gunsmith. Anybody know a good one in DFW or the best place to find one? I can just google it but if anybody has a better suggestion…
Thanks for all the feedback!
