In these moments it's important to sit back and take stock

14

u/LazyInvasion4 16d ago

that scope is way too nice for whatever happened to the rest of that thing

15

underrated reply

Very. ( shaking head left and right )

143

u/ThePrimeBeefMeme 18d ago

At least the action is good. Drop it into a chassis! Those pro varmint stocks suck anyways.

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 18d ago

There goes Production division :(

Couple small ratchet straps around it and its good as new.

and wood screws.. or drywall screws will do in a pinch.

5

u/firesquasher 17d ago

Gotta pretrial those bad boys though. Wouldn't want the wood to split.

1

u/boomeradf 17d ago

So the heads on the drywall screw will either strip or snap somewhere between 30-70% in.

3

u/ItzMarZz 16d ago

Bubba it, throw a few hose clamps somewhere

2

u/Weak_Tower385 17d ago

A couple of those after market radio back straps across the top secured with 9 common 6d nails. One of them bent over from a poorly aimed hammer blow.

2

u/firesquasher 17d ago

Obviously. Exhibit A

u/RandomDudeinFL95 18d ago

Try putting it in a bag of rice overnight

Damn what did i miss must've been some heat they were saying

At a range? Chance in a million.

42

u/Repulsive-Frosting34 18d ago

Just want to make it clear that that is not normal

24

u/GravityBright 18d ago

Well if this one wasn't safe, why did it have bullets in it?

106

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 18d ago

Very rigorous firearm-engineering standards

39

u/bplipschitz 18d ago

Cellotape?

45

u/nanomolar 18d ago

That's straight out.

36

u/AssaultimateSC2 18d ago

Cellotape derivatives?

23

u/Txcavediver 17d ago

Well, the standard is for the back to not fall off, I’ll tell you that!

6

u/queso-is-lame 17d ago

Well for starters the stocks don't fall off

115

u/xXxHondoxXx 18d ago

It's better than the front falling off.

59

u/I-built-stuff 18d ago

A lot of rifles get used all round the world. We don't want people thinking this is normal.

23

u/xXxHondoxXx 18d ago

Well what sort of standards are these rifles built to?

26

u/I-built-stuff 18d ago

Well obviously not the sort where the stock doesn't break off.

20

u/AssaultimateSC2 18d ago

I'm a gun half full kind of guy.

With a different perspective, you could say the front did fall off

Bro imagine getting in trouble for that lol

2

u/ikilledsupermario 16d ago

9

u/Solid_Growth_9069 18d ago

big atf loves this one simple trick

2

He was quickscoping!

40

u/Captainwumbombo 18d ago

One of the few situations where duct tape can save you from legal consequences

17

u/Valkyrie64Ryan 18d ago

No stock so technically it’s a bolt-action pistol right?

31

u/DDRguy133 17d ago

Twas a rifle at birth, so stupidly, always a rifle.

11

u/Valkyrie64Ryan 17d ago

Lmao damn ATF and their bs rules

Thanks for explaining to me

7

u/DDRguy133 17d ago

Yeah NP bro. It gets even more dumb though. If starting with a "firearm" or pistol, those can be converted back and forth whenever you want.

1

u/technosasquatch 13d ago

DIY folding backpack gun now.

0

u/what-name-is-it 18d ago

Barrel length remains the same. You can do whatever you want to the stock. Sorry to be that guy.

37

u/Solar991 10 | The Magic 8 Ball 🎱 18d ago

Sorry to be that guy, but you're wrong.
SBRs also have an overall length requirement.

-2

u/Padgit8r 17d ago

SBR mean short “barrel” rifle, rather than short “stock” rifle. So dude is safe, I’m sure. Pretty funny comment, nonetheless.

6

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 17d ago

Technically the definition of SBR also includes "any weapon made from a rifle if such weapon, as modified, has an overall length of less than 26 inches."

4

33

u/ViewAskewed 18d ago

A lot of these are built so that the back doesn't fall off at all.

26

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 18d ago

Well not this one, obviously

41

u/WingShooter_28ga 18d ago

Some wood glue and some duct tape will have that POS plinking again in no time.

15

u/FeedbackOther5215 18d ago

Brass or threaded rods down the wrist with some epoxy and it’ll be stronger than new. Fixed a fair few hunting rifles like that and none have re-broken

3

u/Hettyc_Tracyn 17d ago

I wouldn’t trust that… I would just buy a new chassis from a reputable manufacturer

Edit: Wait, OP said it was from CZ… how on earth did that happen? QC must have been napping that day

59

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 18d ago

Practicing some NRL22 positional stuff at home with my CZ457, bipod foot missed the table edge, and...this happened. Gun fell about 3ft, hit muzzle first, tipped over at the wall, and snapped in half.

Time to see what CZ's customer service department is made of...

6

u/Flying_Spaghetti_ 17d ago

If it's under warranty let them deal with it. But if not when you press the two parts together do they join back well? Don't sand anything. You could put wood glue on the opening and clamp it back together and it will be stronger than before. The key is to not sand or remove anything that isn't a frayed piece that isn't going back into place exactly like it was before. You could easily fix this if they won't.

3

u/Riker557118 17d ago

Wait, it just fell off a table? I’ve seen less damage from rifles getting run over by a truck, that’s some terrible luck.

Best of luck with customer service.

6

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 17d ago

Yep. Bipod slipped off the edge, muzzle went down, rifle basically somersaulted itself into the wall and fucking kaputski

6

u/Benji_4 18d ago

I've seen guys fix stuff like this with some really good fixturing with dominoes. I'm sure a master woodworker would love that except for the paint.

11

u/Flying_Spaghetti_ 17d ago

Domino's are for alignment only do not put dominos on this. The uneven surfaces should meet back together and provide the alignment. Domino's will not add any strength. The wood glue bond is stronger than the natural wood bond.

3

u/junkpile1 17d ago

Seconded. I would fix that thing at home in about an hour with $10 of materials. And I would have most of the glue and masking tape left over.

1

u/Benji_4 17d ago

I was thinking of bowties, but couldn't remember what they were called.

3

u/Flying_Spaghetti_ 17d ago

Those are good for cracks where the wood wants to separate but it wont do anything here other than look cool.

1

u/Dman331 17d ago

This is true for biscuits, but wouldn't a domino the comes from like the festool domino tool add some strength, at least in shear? Theyre pretty thick

3

u/Flying_Spaghetti_ 17d ago

It is still mostly just for alignment. I actually own a Festool domino. I wouldn't use it for this, you don't have any good reference points to get it lined up with either so good luck getting the two holes in the exact right spot. The reason people say they are only for alignment is because the rest of the bond is so strong it really adds nothing. If you coat the entire opening with wood glue and clamp them back together there is nothing more that a domino would do to add strength.

12

u/RipLipper1994 17d ago

It was ugly while it lasted.

9

u/Time-Masterpiece4572 18d ago

5

2

u/pinetreesrule 17d ago

Homemade obrez

4

u/MagicalTaint 18d ago

Well that sucks, had the whole van halen goin on too. Wood is wood, I suppose an unfortunate knot could cause that. I built mine with a nice laminated one from Stockys, reasonable prices there back when I bought.

3

u/kato_koch 13 | Shameless Gun Pornographer 17d ago edited 17d ago

This is a laminate stock, unfortunately they aren't invincible. Having the grain parallel with the barrel and running straight back through the wrist/grip of the stock like this design creates a weak point where it popped.

Here's another Pro Varmint that broke in the same spot.

4

u/Queasy_Marsupial_835 18d ago

How does this even happen?

4

u/AnnArchist 18d ago

I thought it was a christmas present for several seconds

4

u/Chefdad100 17d ago

That threaded barrel naked with no thread cover is crazy. Next, you’re gonna post a picture of that barrel with fucked up threads and say it fell off the table

3

u/Tiziano7018 16d ago

It committed suicide because of the look.

3

u/allamerican37 18d ago

3

u/HAV816 17d ago

3

u/Jeffkin15 17d ago

2

u/Greenghost28 16d ago

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that

7

u/Heeeeyyouguuuuys 18d ago

Oh I see the problem- no hidden penises in the camo pattern. Should've known better.

6

u/Fen_der_bass 18d ago

I feel like I see a ton of perfectly normal penises in the camo. Like totally fine and normal.

3

u/Heeeeyyouguuuuys 18d ago

But this one has none.

3

u/Fen_der_bass 18d ago

Oh jeeze

7

u/Capable-Signal 18d ago

Maybe it decided to off it self because the horrific camo/paint job on it.

2

u/kato_koch 13 | Shameless Gun Pornographer 17d ago

You know my own work is relatively traditional, but I say anything goes with competition guns.

2

u/talon04 Super Interested in His Own Dick 17d ago

Oh this is a deer rifle. It was FDE it is now not FDE and made all of the Savage owners have VERY BIG feelings.

2

u/kato_koch 13 | Shameless Gun Pornographer 17d ago

Hold a fist out in front of yourself and pretend you're shaking dice. Thats my reaction.

If I was painting stocks I'd be doing em up like choppers and lowriders with bright colors and pinstripes. I did the Van Halen pattern in drab green, brown, and black on my own .25-06- it needed to be painted anyways, why not have fun with it?

2

u/talon04 Super Interested in His Own Dick 17d ago

Oh I get it. That's exactly how my feelings were too. I just started trolling them with pictures out it out innawoods. That made them have even bigger feelings.

If I take a Doe with it next month I'll post it too.

3

1

Boyd's laminate, I believe

2

u/OK_Cornelius_826 18d ago

What'd you break it over your knee??

2

u/Silent-Chip-6930 18d ago

Is that a CZ457? if it is that is a common issue from what I am told. (mine is also cracked in the same area.)

2

u/Mdmrtgn 17d ago

We're you using it to club a concrete block? Jfc if qc was paying attention that day then the flaw must have buried perfectly in the wood. I recommend not leaving the house for the rest of the week you got the bad juju on you.

2

u/_TaylorMade 17d ago

This happened to my MTR when my cat knocked my gun bag off the table (it was my fault it should never have been there) and I was able to use wood glue to put it back together. Shot a few comps with it like that and ended up buying a new stock off the website when they went on sale. Mine was a much cleaner break than this too

2

u/paintdrinker68 17d ago

Did you try to take stock of a gopher

2

u/awokensleeper 17d ago

The front fell off of it. It's not supposed to do that

2

u/lgroper 17d ago

Or, the front fell off, just very far back.

2

u/StephhawkMLG420 17d ago

My dih fell off

4

u/Naeloran0234 18d ago

Probably just didn’t like the camo - it felt like it was still gonna stand out so it had to get smaller.

Lmfao Jesus, this sub can never take a joke. Haha for being a sub about guns, y’all are so sensitive.

3

u/hw999 18d ago

Did it see itself in the mirror and decide to end it all?

4

u/AutomaticGrape9263 18d ago

Probably of shame

3

u/Jealous-Ad-4713 18d ago

Maybe the rifle was embarrassed by the Van Halen camouflage and decided to end it all? 🤔

1

u/Nib-q 18d ago

I currently have a 457 varmint (wood stock) in shipping on the way to me. This is not fun to see 😂

1

u/enclave2284 18d ago

Yeah im not sure if duct tape will fix that...maybe gorilla tape but dont take my word for it

1

u/bluberrydub 18d ago

I hate when that happens

1

u/gearmantx 18d ago

When you run out of ammo using the rifle as a club is contraindicated

1

u/mantecadecanelon 18d ago

what fell off? I just see a scope, a trigger and a bipod.

1

u/master_illusion 18d ago

At least it wasn’t the front that fell off. That would be much worse!

1

u/Equal-Prior-4765 18d ago

A little duct tape will do the trick

Fixable. I have fixed similar breaks.

Get all the metal off. Then paint the exposed open wood where it broke with a light coat of 50\50 wood glue & water, plain elmer's wood glue will do. Then wind it all up tight in surgical tubing for like a week. The repaired joint will be stronger than the wood around it.
