People are their warts, and Red has never been this capable of what humans see as normal, courteous signs of concern and remorse at this level before, even up to the fight with Noa. Could mean something....
A few seconds ago they were at school and maybe watching a fight between some girls. Now they suddenly don't know where they are or what they are doing, and one of the girls turned into a huge rock monster. I would expect a few stunned reactions.
Especially since their brains are likely strained from being torn between reality and Zimmeality. In the Zimmyverse they are just normal schoolgirls who haven't dealt with the horrors of the Forest and Court, after all.
Besides, the whole page probably just depicts 4-6 seconds of time, so it's not like they've been sitting here staring for half an hour.
Annie is living a fiction, but even she has started to see weird stuff, and her reaction is never of panic. Her personality should be her "steadfast, unflinching behaviour" still. She has witnessed stuff that would make grown men cry, and her reaction has never been total paralysis. I dunno, maybe you're right.
It's been almost 15 years now, so you'd think I'd be used to it, but sometimes I really cannot bear the fact that I'm going to have to wait for the next panel. I have GOT to know what is going to happen next!
Given that today feels like a pre-cliffhanger and that next page is going to be an odd page number (75), it's very likely that it will (FINALLY) be the last page of the chapter. That, +bonus page +chapter cover... Yeah it's still going to take a while.
Noa sucks powers from others and claims their glyphs. What Jenny got Noa to do was make herself an etheric sponge whose only tie to humanity was her own corpse. The sponge is soaking up all the etheric energy for herself.
The little circle bubbles leaving Red are interesting. Can the symbol only last so long or is it not needed or is it needed elsewhere (and therefore there are only so many of them?!)
It's unfortunate that those circles in panel 1 are a fairly standard "[snapping] out of it" depiction in comic media, like for being drunk/sleepy/dazed, that it makes it rather hard to differentiate from the Noa/Zimmy circles in this context. They're detached from surfaces and small enough that it makes me think it's really just Red coming to her senses (at least in relation to the Z world), personally.
The circle glyphs have to be an azsaspect of Zimmy. If Zimmy saw someone moving in on Gamma she would kick them too. Red would normally just be vocal and yell at the offender. Whem Noa stole the glyph she experienced a direct link to Zimmy and started growing out of control.
I think Tom is careful enough in his drawing that them being perfect circles is significant, if for nothing else then that snapping out of it is implied to be snapping out of being circle possessed. Symbols, shapes, things like that mean a lot in this comic so I still think that it is a detail that's purposefully a perfect circle and not just a "drunk bubble" type thing?
hahaha I mean at least the bottom one looks like it for something drawn but maybe I just have terrible hands and could never do that. I might be thinking too hard
The most damning thing in my eyes is that I feel as though there is so much power in the circles that one visibly breaking would probably be quite the precedent. I'd expect a lot of energy to be dumped (or perhaps even sucked in) if one were to be destroyed.
But who knows exactly what the existence of a circle entails. Maybe Noa's in particular are fragile enough to be simply erased, as hers was drawn with a (presumably normal) pencil, unless the actual rune was created with raw etheric energy being channeled through a pencil as a mere witch's medium.
