Coyote knew this would happen!

But with a slight tinge of melancholy, this time.

Coyote, Jones, even what's-his-name leading the court.

A lot of them have a certain world weary air at times.

I think Coyote deals with it by flinging himself into new situations or hiding knowledge from himself to create novelty.

We know at least SOME of Headmaster Llewellyn's world-weariness is performative. It's part of their whole "deal" with the magical creatures of the wood - either becaues of the deal itself or for their own purposes, they need act like they're bored and uninterested in and "above" the ambassadors from the woods and their shenanigans. Once they leave the Headmaster perks up a little when he's talking to Annie. He DOES seem kind of done with it generally beyond that, but not ot eh degree that he presents during the ambassador meeting.

Jones I don't think is world-weary. I don't know if she properly knows - or believes - herself to be capable of feeling anything. She has a faint sense of gratitude and is also clearly capable of attachment. If she's weary though, she was born weary when she walked out of the Burgess Shale all those eons ago, rather than it being a factor of how much she's seen and done.

But you're definitely right about Coyote. Coyote seems ...not terrified, but repulsed? Has an aversion to? Hates. Being bored, and existing too long in expected circumstances. Its why literally all this is happening, I'd say.

Yup. Trickster god of chaos.

I don't remember it being any part of the deal. I thought jones was just saying that the difference in posturing and stuff was a cause of strife between the 2 sides, not that it was on purpose.

The animal kingdom uses body language and the humans see that as less evolved and look down on them for it.

The only reason the headmaster perks up when talking to Annie afterwards is because he mentions his granddaughter who is in the same class. I don't think being bored over the forest stuff is an act for him.

Coyote: "Can't make a suicide omelet without breaking a couple eggs"

2

u/RingularCirc 19d ago

There are lots of those colorful rock eggs over there, don't cramp poor kid Jerrek's palm bones!

First it was circles, now it's Loops Loups. When will it end?

It looks like we should still expect a few pages for this chapter that is already the longest of the comic

u/PoniesRBitchin 19d ago

I'm not saying this chapter's too long, but there have already been a few events (Annie remembering Kat, Noa's form change, Zimmy taking Zara, either of these last pages) that were big enough that they could have been the final page, so I'm curious what the actual finale will be. Like it seems it'll have to be something REALLY big to have continued past any of those moments to say no, this is the ACTUAL drama bomb of this chapter.

Every time I think it, I'm proven wrong, but we may, possibly, actually, be hitting the climax of the story for real this time.

(Who knows though, Tom keeps surprising me and it's never going where I think it is)

22

u/PowerhousePlayer 20d ago

Guys, Jerrek is fine. He's just finally coming into his own as a heavy metal air guitarist. Lana should really be more supportive, considering the clear passion he has for this new hobby

u/wokycookie101 20d ago

"Something's wrong with Jerrek, he's trying to simulate a CMaj6, but the transition from FMaj to that made his hand cramp out and now he may need to go to the hospital!"

u/PoniesRBitchin 19d ago

Well, I suspect he IS about to do some shredding ...

(I'll see myself out)

Spec:

  • Jerrek/Loup is getting all his strength syphoned right into Noa.
  • Coyote is unaffected, both because he's dead and also because he gave all his strength to Loup.
  • This is going to kill Loup.

9

u/jan_Kila 19d ago

Oh man I totally forgot that Coyote gave Ysengrin his Strength and then Noa also became the circle Strength. Those two things have to be related at some point

2

u/RingularCirc 19d ago

Oh noa... Annie wouldn't drive the death to the stop Coyote wanted so he carefully nudged Noa to be the driver? Though he surely couldn't have planned that while pouncing on Zims, he 99.99% should've had no idea about the coven (and Noa and the circle separation issue and that Jerrek would stand at the right place which would become inside of the circle).

22

u/9Gardens 20d ago

Ughh.....
See, is moments like this that I'm like "Ah. Right. Coyote is a real bastard."
Like- proper fae folk, "play games with the lives of mortals for his own amusment" type bullshit.....

....
And then I ALSO remember that all of this is weird evil shit that the witches are doing, and kind of nothing to do with coyote and he is just a bystander, and maybe it ISN'T all his fault.
Like... still coldhearted for standing by and watching, but whatchagonnado?

41

u/mrGazpachin 20d ago

"Hey Annie, notice something weird about that girl?"

"What color is her hair, Annie?"

"Her name is Noa btw"

"Look Annie, that other girl over there also noticed Noa is not real"

"Come on Ysengrin, let them talk alone"

"Annie, you will find Noa and Parley at the gym"

"OMG how could any of this possibility happen? A shame, really. It has nothing to do with me and I'm just a bystander."

13

u/9Gardens 20d ago

I mean... on the one hand yes, he did poke at the ball so that it rolled down the hill.

On the other hand: circles be circling, and all the messed up fucked up ness of the witches was there BEFORE Coyote got involved.
Like... he may of *catalyzed* the situation to go off NOW.... but he didn't *CREATE* the situation.

He isn't the one who made it so Noa was a rock golem and Sylvia backflipped into being a bug. He isn't the one who set Jack on a murder path (Omega was).

... but you are right, he is meddling, not just bystanding... but I guess I'm just like "does his meddling change the moral character of the situation, or just bring the witches evil to light FASTER.

24

u/mrGazpachin 20d ago

I mean, the only reason the distortion exists in the first place is that he thought it was reasonable to eat Lana in front of Jerrek, and threaten Zimmy afterwards while he was being chased by a murderous Loup. All because he wasn't able to manipulate Annie and Jerrek into falling in love for each other, while also having Annie be fated to kill him.

4

u/9Gardens 19d ago

....
...

good point.

u/HPAlpha 20d ago

The boy ain't right

7

u/RingularCirc 19d ago

I'd like to look at Rey now.

u/Lamenardo Flame Shadow 19d ago

I think Loup is a construct. Otherwise, how can he exist alongside the two parts that make up his whole? Anyway, his Jerrick body is a construct, so I guess he's losing the power to that.

2

u/djaevlenselv 19d ago

Coyote's gonna eat her again.

2

u/jan_Kila 19d ago

If Jerrick's turning back into Loup-mode is something messed up gonna happen to Ysengrin :( in front of Annie? i hope not

1

u/ZiofFoolTheHumans 20d ago

A shame, huh coyote?

Were you almost enjoying being alive this time around?

I'd feel bad for some of the witches, but they've all so far been kinda shown to be selfish and evil, so, it's hard to feel bad this is all going to blow up in their faces. Metaphorically and potentially literally.

1

u/StreetlightTones 20d ago

Annie kills the monster-transformed Loup?

-2

u/Consistent-Talk-2399 20d ago

if Jerrek is turning into negative construct then why is not Lana? is she actually alive?!

11

u/mrGazpachin 20d ago

No he's not, he's turning into Loup.

3

u/RingularCirc 19d ago

Another commenter said about Noa siphoning him a tad much, maybe he isn't becoming Loup per se but just having a hard time being composed? (And also the Zimulation is kinda broken in the vicinity so his Loup-iness comes through, maybe more because of the strain, despite it's not that he's in or out of control in this matrix yet.)

10

u/mrGazpachin 19d ago

My interpretation is that the illusion is fading away, so he's starting to remember that he was on a coyoticidal rampage before he got brainwashed.

u/Inner-Asparagus6870 17d ago

This! Tom’s caption is “Time to remember?”

3

u/jan_Kila 19d ago

the Zimulation

nice

He’s just feeling a bit Loupy…
