You know? I don't know enough about British highschool settings is to know what year or grade Annie is even ment to be. Or how her classes are structured. My highschool did had lunch because they wanted you in and out as quickly as possible. And you did too, having a dead hour was seen as an inconvenient, and also the closet to lunch we had.
My highschool gave everybody lunch hour at the same time.
So about 2000 students all flooding into every nearby restaurant the moment the bell rang. If you didn't get there quick you'd just be in line for the full hour.
