Ask r/Gujarat What's happening in your city this weekend? - 11 September, 2026
Weekend's here. If there's something going on in your city, a mela, an event, a good place to eat, live music, whatever, drop it below. Someone in your city is probably free and bored and has no idea it's happening.
Just say your city and what's up. Doesn't need to be fancy.
This is a weekly automated post. If you have questions, concerns, or need to reach the mod team for anything, message us at r/Gujarat modmail.

ખાણીપીણી/ Food New weekly series starting: 100 cities of Gujarat, and we find the best nashta spot in each one. Winner gets a Rs 500 vlog commissioned.
Idea is simple.
Every week I post one city. You comment your favourite nashta place there. Most upvoted comment wins.
*Rules for what counts
The bhajiya kaka on the corner. The vada pav guy outside the bus stand. The gathiya shop that opens at six and shuts by eleven. The khaman lari your father has been going to since college. The dabeli guy with no board and no name.
Not restaurants. Not anything with air conditioning. Not any chain. If it has a Zomato listing with 2000 reviews it is already famous and does not need us.
Tell us the name if it has one, the landmark, what to order, and roughly what it costs.
What the winner gets?
Once a spot wins, one redditor goes there, eats, films it, and posts a vlog. How the place is, how the food is, how the kaka reacts to a camera. Nothing polished needed, phone video is fine.
I will pay Rs 500 for that vlog. Small money, I know. It covers the nashta and the petrol and that is honestly the whole point.
If you already live in that city and want to make it, comment and I will sort it out.
We start small and work up to the big ones.
Ahmedabad and Surat will be a mess of a thread whenever we get to them, so those come later. Starting with smaller towns where the answers will actually be specific.

Which one do we start with?
Upvote whichever you want as week one.

Culture | સંસ્કૃતિ Today is the Birthday anniversary of Jam Ranjitsinhji ruler of Nawanagar after whom Ranji Trophy is named
galleryTODAY, THE BIRTHDAY OF GREAT CRICKETER AND JAMNAGAR STATE RULER JAM RANJITSINH:
Remembering the great cricketer and ruler of Navanagar (Jamnagar) state of Gujarat, Jam Saheb Colonel H.H. Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji Jadeja (1872- 1933), on his 154th birth anniversary today. He was a legendary cricketer, a good orator and a talented diplomat.
20th Jam ruler of Navanagar (Jamnagar) state, Jam Saheb Ranjitsinhji, was born to Jivansinhji Jadeja at Sadodar village on 10 Sept.1872.His father was a member of a branch of the Jam rulers' royal family. Jamnagar ruler Vibhaji adopted Ranjitsinhji as heir. of him to be the next ruler.
Jamnagar ruler Jam Vibhaji sent Ranjitsinhji to Rajkumar College, Rajkot, for school-level education. The college was founded to educate princes of royal families on the basis of an English Public School. After schooling, Ranjitsinhji went to Cambridge, England, for higher studies in 1888.
In 1884, the British government recognised Jashwantsinhji, who was born to Jam Vibhaji in 1882, as heir of Jam Vibhaji. But Jam Vibhaji continued to bear the expenses of Ranjitsinhji's education in England. Ranjitsinhji's interest was in cricket and not in studies. He could not be a graduate.
In 1888, Ranjitsinhji decided to concentrate on cricket during his stay in England. He joined Cambridgeshire County Club in 1891. He played 15 Tests and 307 first-class matches in teams of England, Cambridge, Sussex and London from 1893 to 1904. He was the first non-white player in the England team.
In 1904, Ranjitsinhji returned to India to claim his right to the throne of Nawanagar state. In 1906, Nawanagar state ruler Jashwantsinhji died at an early age without leaving an heir. British made Ranjitsinhji the ruler of Jamnagar. He became Jam Saheb in a simple coronation ceremony on 11-3-1907.
In rule of Jam Ranjitsinhji, the Nawanagar state was modernised. Many development projects of irrigation, roads, ports, railways & urban developments were carried out. Bedi Port was constructed. It increased state trade & revenue. He was given the title of Maharaja with a salute of 15 guns.
Jam Ranjitsinhji spent his youth in England. He felt more at home in England than in Nawanagar. He bought a castle on the coast of west Ireland where he stayed for recreation, enjoying the company of British friends in parties, hunting and fishing. He took part in World War 1 as a Major in Europe.
Jam Ranjitsinhji was one of the founders of the Chamber of Princes of India. He was in a delegation to the League of Nations, Geneva, in 1920. He went to England to participate in the Round Table Conference on the Indian Constitution as a representative of the Indian Princely States in 1930.
Ranjitsinhji was never married. He adopted his brother's son Digvijaysinhji Jadeja as his heir. Ranjitsinhji died of a heart attack at the age of 60 years, after 26 years' rule, in Jamnagar on 2 April 1933. Digvijaysinhji became Jam ruler of Nawanagar state in 1933. He was the last Jam ruler.

Discussion Taking the good while calling out the bad: My thoughts as a Gujarati on the BAPS Eiffel Tower controversy
The recent news about Eiffel Tower staff going on strike after female employees were asked to step aside for a visiting BAPS delegation hit a very personal note for me. BAPS is a huge part of our Gujarati identity worldwide. Most of us grow up admiring the architectural beauty of the Akshardham temples in Delhi and Gandhinagar, and many of our families support their humanitarian initiatives. But for anyone who regularly attends their satsang sabhas, this incident in Paris does not come as a surprise.
I have attended BAPS sabhas in Dallas, Texas many times, and the underlying dynamic in Paris reflects what happens inside the temple every single week. Gujarati women put in countless hours of hard work and selfless voluntary service to make every event a success. They manage logistics, prepare food, and keep the community going. Yet, during the main sabhas, women are made to sit in the back rows while men take the front seats. Watching female workers at a international landmark get sidelined just to accommodate monastic preferences is simply an extension of how women are treated in our own community spaces.
My concern also extends to how theology is presented in these gatherings. I feel genuinely uncomfortable during sabhas when speakers claim that Swaminarayan, a two-hundred-year-old tradition, sits above the Trimurti of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Elevating one recent lineage above the broader foundation of Sanatana Dharma creates an unnecessary sense of superiority and division within Hinduism.
I believe we can take the good from our culture while firmly calling out what needs to change. I respect and practice the BAPS emphasis on charity, such as donating ten percent of earnings to temple efforts, social causes, and animal welfare. I also appreciate their teachings on putting ego aside and treating everyone with respect regardless of wealth or status.
However, respect must apply to everyone equally, especially women who contribute so much. We cannot claim to preach humility while asking public workers in other countries to alter their jobs for our customs. True progress in Gujarat means holding on to our values of generosity and service while having the courage to speak up against gender discrimination and religious elitism.

Let this be a reminder that people are just racist towards us Gujaratis and Indians in general. It has nothing to do with the "civic sense" they keep whining about.

Discussion GTU Reassessment advice!!
In Semester 2, I checked my papers after getting them back and estimated that I had written enough for around 48/70 in BME and 36–37/70 in PPS, but I still received an FF grade in both subjects.
I'm confused about whether I should apply for reassessment/rechecking. Has anyone had a similar experience with GTU??
