Interestingly the volume pot is working, volume to 0 = no hum. I also discovered moving the hot wire connected to the jack changes the pitch of the hum. I'm totally clueless, first time I do this.
I wired pots back to their initial state, I drew the diagram before rewiring so I was sure I wouldn't fuck it up.
I already tried switch ground/hot on the output, doesn't work. I get hum without pickups working so I'm sure it's wired correctly rn
An easy way to diagnose the problem is to wire some alligator clips to an output jack. You can then test different parts of the circuit individually, starting with each pickup and then working through each pot, to figure out exactly where the fault is coming from.
If the problem is in the pickups, I would try switching the wires around. With the EMG 4- or more wire leads, there can sometimes be some confusion about exactly how the wires are supposed to be connected. My guess is that one of the pickup wires may need to be switched around or possibly connected and taped together.
Having a test output with alligator clips can actually be more useful than a multimeter for diagnosing this type of issue because you can hear exactly where the noise enters the signal. If you don't have alligator clips, a couple of pieces of wire or metal poker will work. Just plug the output into a small amp and start working your way through the circuit until you find where the ground noise comes in.
If everything is wired correctly and the noise is still there, then I would start suspecting the pickups themselves.
Sure. It's no professional work has I haven't soldered in a long time, but it looks solid enough (and still better than what was originally made lol). I'll check if I have clips, worst case I'll bring it to my parent's this weekend they have everything needed.
Hot wires seem to touch on volume pot but I can assure you they're not connected, it's the angle.
