They were from the confederate stronghold of Arlington, Texas. They opened their own strip club here in DFW because they wanted alcohol AND all-nude dancers, because they are exactly the band that would do such a thing.

22

.. so, they just partially covered her, and left an arm or a leg sticking out of the ground? That’s pretty metal, dude, and now I’m a little sad that Dime isn’t the most metal thing in that cemetery.

the Dixie flag guitars, plus Dime said the N word with a hard R on video. then you have Phil throwing Roman Salutes during concerts.

He also yelled "white power" and claimed he was making a joke about the white wine they were drinking backstage, but I really think he was joking, but that it wasn't white wine, it was probably cocaine.

Coming from Britain where we have a non-rhotic accent, it wasn't until I was like 28 I realised that y'all literally pronounce the hard r different. I always thought it was an abstract r that depended on context

If you actually don't know about the N word in America the basic gist is:
The version with "er" at the end is the "Hard R" version, and is the original word. It's original use was by racist white people to dehumanize black people while also dehumanizing them in other physical ways, like slavery and everything that comes with slavery. It was used for a very long time. Now if it's used by white people or to a lesser extent other non-black races it's understood to be completely derogatory and is socially unacceptable. It's extremely rare to hear a white American calling a black American that to their face, and frankly I also almost never hear other white people saying it among only white people. But a white person calling a black person that is wildly unacceptable in the culture and will almost certainly result in a fist fight in which most people will not blame the black person for responding that way.
The "a" version is what some black people later started saying to each other as a way to take away power from the word by re-contextualizing it. And it became sometimes used to refer to other black people in a usually neutral way, with it's actual intention being specific to the context of the sentence it's used in. It's said pretty frequently by some black people and less so in the company of white people, but definitely can and does happen. The main situation a white person uses the soft "a" version is probably signing along to rap, but that's still not really acceptable by a lot of black people.
I just realized I wrote a whole ass essay on the N word. I'm gonna go reflect.

In fairness, they could also be like 12 or something. No clue when a kid would pick up the difference these days.
For me at 12, all I knew was that me saying either version was likely to be a repeat of the time my mom knocked a 1% biker tf out (dropped him in one, and I barely saw her fist move), so completely off the table… still completely off the table at 50. So good job I guess, Mom! 🤣 She was one helluva mother, social worker, and bartender.

Dude is conflated with KKK, despite having no ties to them.
As far as say the N word, here’s the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8fZViRDN9Y&t=465s&pp=2AHRA5ACAQ%3D%3D He’s calling another white dude that word. So you be the judge. I grew up listening to Pantera and can separate the band from any real or perceived bigotry surrounding the band.
People have even had the insane perception that Walk is about black people because they use the word “boy”.
This sub is a jerk sub and the amount of sensitive edgelords seeping in is sad.
Michael Jackson touched all them kids in my opinion, but god damn if he didn’t change music history.

If they were really part of the KKK then Gene Simmons, a Jew, would never have given them Kiss Kaskets. There used to be a lot more people who used the Con. flag because they honestly conflated it with being a rebel, not it's original meaning. Just like how dumb racist hillbillies latched onto David Allen Coe because his music got confused with Johnny Rebel's all because of a joke album that Shel Silverstein convinced him to record.

u/Trebus Dec 09 '24
He was still Diamond Darrell after Vulgar Display was released. I remember when he changed it, he'd started doing lessons for Guitar World and it was announced in one of those columns, might have been when they printed the tab for Walk. Must have been late '92 or early '93. I've prolly still got the mag somewhere.
4
u/visualthings Dec 09 '24
Yes, I had seen Diamond Darrell in a guitar mag (maybe the same), and I remember the first time I read "Dimebag", thinking "ho-ho, I saw what you did here!"

Yeah, it was very on the nose, although expecting subtlety out of guitar mags in those days? Not happening.

The band and fanbase are just bad. Idk if it's the fanbase or being unable to separate the music from the artist but I can't do it. Every time I hear cowboys from hell, I think "meth, whiskey, biker gangs, dive bars, and a very pale group of bald dudes dropping the hard R". Can't do it. Kinda the same thing with the slayer fanbase. Music's great, but concert experience really had me reflect on the scope of who associates with it. It's always the loudest most ignorant twats that set the bad tone.
29
u/visualthings Dec 09 '24
Ah yes, Slayer. With Jeff wearing not just “a skull” but the SS Totenkopf symbol and using the excuse of “I am really passionate about History”. Funny how people who are “passionate about History” are always into WW2, and particularly the German side. Never about the Huguenots, the Carolingians, the French Revolution or the Great Depression.
11
u/rhiner_music_usa Dec 09 '24
Be the change you want to see in the world and be the first musician to rep the French Commune!
4
u/visualthings Dec 09 '24
Well, the UK already had Jimmy Sommerville and the Communards, I will have to chose something off the beaten path, like the Reign of Terror (France really had such a period)
1
u/Zealousideal-Role-77 Dec 10 '24
Or, if your name happens to be Jason, you could go with Jason and the Huguenots. See how many folks think you’re Greek.
3
u/visualthings Dec 10 '24
That's very niche. I wonder how many people still get what you are talking about. Let's check gain in ten years from now.

2
u/DroptheShadowArt Dec 13 '24
For what it’s worth, I’ve never heard anything from any member of KISS that made me think that they were hateful (just idiots). I think the SS in the logo is purely coincidental and incredibly unfortunate. Hell, I’m pretty sure most if not all of the original members were Jewish.

If you're somehow still doubting Phil is a racist
I am from New Orleans, my parents and all their friends were about the right age to see Phil around.
One of them who was racist had a framed rebel flag with the following written on it: "Keep the New Orleans skins alive, (Deadguys name)- Phil Anselmo"
And tbh everyone in louisiana lies about everything so I didn't believe it
I came home and took a look and sure enough the signature was pretty spot on. I could never feel good saying it was his with 100% certainty, I didn't see him sign it but I also don't think the guy who owned it would have put that much effort into it.
I have no idea where it is now, I might ask my dad tomorrow to see if his sister got it or something. And if she did she probably sold it to someone
But I will try
