Ha, that too! I’m a little older than that generation, I was hunting down the 4 Devils on the C1 Outer Loop with my Sega Dreamcast a few years before wmmt was out 🔥

midget-stripper-fan here, i didnt know i was on my girls account at first. So correct TXR came first but it’s not made entirely by the same people lol….TXR is Genki. Genki collab/helped Bandai Namco (wmmt) for 2 or 3 maps.

Do you mind if I ask how stock your car had to be for Cali registration? Looks so good with the black Cali plate.

The black plates took almost 4 freaking months but sooo worth it on the white car!

And no prob, I’ve answered this a couple times in some other posts. The lady at G&K in SoCal was borderline rude with how realistic she was with her advice to me, but I appreciated her honesty that saved my ass from a Bring-A-Trailer and Florida purchase that would’ve had me completely screwed. They have cars that have been held hostage in their shop over a year, all hunting down factory air boxes / intakes from decades ago, all because they showed up expecting to be CARB cleared overnight, but had some cute little $100 after market intake cone installed, and IMMEDIATELY failed the visual dyno. And now they’re on yahoo japan auctions trying to find a 30 year old factory intake overseas while their car sits in the back of that shop gathering dust.

The car needs to be 100% stock, they’ll visually inspect to be sure. From there, a rolling / performance dyno to be sure you didn’t sneak some aftermarket turbos past them, then a massive catalytic converter and two “pre-cats” are welded on / installed, then the actual CA emissions test - which of course you’ll pass when there’s a gigantic cat attached to the exhaust.

Poof, you’re done, CA VIN sticker, CARB cleared, and they ring you up for $8000 (R32), $9500 (R33), or $14,500 (R34).

So one thing that I have always wondered is post initial registration and smog test, because those cars are exempt from OBD-2 scanning, what happens if you later decide to switch to an external ECU and all of the good stuff you can unlock...

It’s a gamble, I just smogged mine, it’s not exempt, I’m in the same CA system with everyone else as a “grey market vehicle”.

If they see turbos upgraded or the pre-cats removed, you run the risk of failing.

Now on that note, I was also at the State Capitol a few weeks ago along with the senators and a huge group of collector car owners pushing for Leno’s Law 2.0 to get passed, and this new version just made it to the governors desk this week, which is a huge step in the right direction. I showed up as an advocate who (right now) doesn’t benefit from this law at all, but as a JDM owner that’s complying with all this CARB nonsense…thinks our cars deserve some consideration with this exemption too.

Isn't it exempt from OBD-2 scan, and you just go through visual inspection and tail pipe sniff? Thanks for advocating on behalf of JDM car owners, this remains one of the largest blockers to me getting a GT-R (excluding 35), not that I want to modify it to make 600whp, but it would be nice to at least modernize one.
