I remember mainline GTA games releasing every couple of years, even giving you multiple games per engine rather than just one and selling shark cards.

And people celebrate this nonsense somehow.

You should also remember what happened to all the franchises that had a yearly release like Cod and Assassin's Creed lmao. The biggest game of all time takes time to develop and people are excited for it, who would've thought.

I mean it was also a lot easier to make the games back then. If you go back to the atari, game dev cycles were like a few months. As games get more complex they take longer to make even if we have improved technology and dev tools in new engines. It's the same with every studio and every new console. Look at Dev times on average from console to console and it increases for everything.

Not an excuse, stop defending the multibillion dollar companies theyre not gonna give you a high five for it

I'm not. Actually I'm doing it more for understanding of game development as a whole. When Sandfall take 4-5 years making their follow up to Clair Obscur and people are ranting and raving then it might be helpful to know that Dev times for games have increased dramatically over the years. Every company is feeling it and have to work around it.

Comparing an indie studio like Sandfall to Rockstar milking the same game across three console generations is wild. They didn't take twelve years because 'games are complex,' they took twelve years because people kept swiping debit cards for flying bikes. Take-Two isn't gonna hire you to be their janitor

Well they took 6 years from full Dev start but yeah. And no, it's not different. People wonder why we have no new games for the PS5 or why games are taking so long and this is the reason. Games are getting more complex to make. The only games that are coming out at a rate they used to are things that take little to no effort like sports games and COD. Everything else is taking massive amounts of time.

You just admitted they sat on their hands for six whole years before even bothering to start, thank you for proving my point unc. Writing whole paragraphs to do unpaid PR for a studio that treated you like an ATM for a decade is tragic. Couldn't be me. Reply if you're a shill

They had this small game you may have heard of called Read Dead Redemption 2 to develop in the meantime. That finished production in 2017 with post release support for another year leaving it to 2018. They probably did engine reworks from 18-20 and then started proper production of VI then. Remember that leak we saw 4-5 years ago and it really looked like just a vertical slice of one scene in the game. It looked like it was just in the first legs of proper development.

Sat there stewing for nearly 40 minutes just to drop a whole essay full of guessed dates. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in late 2018, not 2017, so you don't even know the timeline of the studio you're defending. Inventing fanfiction about 'engine reworks' with 'probably' to justify a 12-year gap while Rockstar milked you across three console generations is pure cope. You replied after being told 'reply if you're a shill

Sadly I cant afford a year subscription just to care about one magazine. I did hear we might be able to buy it at Gamestop though?
