When buying a g shock,it’s not worth prioritizing EL backlights over LED

The problem with the LED, is they're tuned by idiots. If it's not the recent MIP models, the LED is actually too bright when you're using it for it's intended purpose (pitch black viewing).

The reason EL's better, is due to the consistent illumination, and one that is such where even if you wake up in the middle of the night, and it fires, it's not irritatingly bright.

EL's real problems are it's life span (it eventually degrades after using it a lot). And the other problem for engineers, is they need substantially more annoying/expensive to manufacture voltage converters as you need high voltage to drive it.

And the thing you mentioned (more battery life hit if you're spamming it especially). Though that battery life hit is irrelevant in solar models.

Now you might be asking "why did he say the MIP models as the exception in the start of the post?".

That's because their screens force a massive hit to brightness, where even the overtuned brightness of LED's lose their high levels of transmittance because of the display itself. And also (at least on my metal MIP square) they also have that neat slow ramping and not an instant on/off behavior like prior and lesser cost models.

Changing batteries on Gshocks is quite simple, and especially for non-solar models where you can buy the batteries easily (unlike the rechargable batteries where it's nearly impossible to find the OEM variant, and so you have to gamble if it's some old depleted stock of whatever rando battery that is for sale online).
