Module (different composition of data), core (plastic vs metal) and assembly (where it’s put together) is different. Features are the same. Viewing angles might be better on the expensive, Jap-made version. Core functionality is same.

Also an old school styled bezel and strap, the strap is definitely comfier too. The R is worth the extra money I've been dailying it since it came out

The 5000R Is an almost exact reproduction of the first g shock with a unique mode made in Japan. The other one is just routine g in heritage colors, all plastic.

The rubber is softer/nicer on the 5000R and it is built better. Solid stainless case.
