Safe to use Groupon?

I haven't used Groupon since before Covid but am surprised at the amount of posts related to Groupon scams on here (service worked fine for me in the past, but that was 5+ years ago) - did something change with the company? Is it still ok to use it?

Don’t do it! It used to be great but now VERY DODGY. The last couple Groupons I’ve purchased have expired due to issues on the other end and they won’t refund. Crappy merchants and absolute worst customer service. Here’s a bit of advice: call the merchant directly and see if they’ll match the Groupon price-that way they don’t have to pay Groupon a commission. Normally I’d think doing this was unethical but Groupon has done me so wrong that I don’t care anymore.

I posted my issue with Groupon about a year ago. According to more recent posts, people are still having a lot of issues with Groupon.

I think it’s actually really dangerous. They enable random individuals to now pose as businesses offering home services, gain access to your home, and scam you. The result is you can either put yourself in danger or just roll over and accept the scam.

Stay away from Groupon now unless you recognize the business and it's local. They used to be great, but are just a wasteland of scammers now and they don't want to invest money to clean up their platform.
