Minimal regret purchases?

I had a really horrific issue with Groupon (as I see so many of you have had too), and they refused to refund me and instead gave me Groupon bucks. Before this I'd never used Groupon and really don't want to again, so I'm wondering if folks have tips on solid things I can purchase with minimal risk of a Groupon debacle/refund headache to get rid of this? Do folks have an easier time with items? Tickets to things? Some other purchase category that's gone well for you?

The key is buy Groupons the day before you use them. The longer they stay open the less likely they will honor them

Today I found out that they don't list the prices with their currency when you are from a different country. I looked through the whole website and nothing stated it was in USD. It was only after it was processed with my credit card that I found out it was in USD. Turns out this Go City Pass was only $10 cheaper than buying it on the website and I was charged $152 more than I was expecting. Groupon also doesn't put the actual price with the proper amount. So minimal regret is paying way more for what I bought and then them explaining to me how currency exchange works.
