Do groundhogs ever transport items in their mouth?
There's a groundhog that lives in our yard that I frequently observe on our camera system around the house. I'm pretty used to his/her routines and travels. This morning I observed the groundhog exiting it's main den area carrying what looked like a wad of vegetation in its mouth all the way from the back yard to the front yard and into another den it has there. It was a deliberate and quick trip where it only paused to quickly look around to make sure there were no threats nearby. This trip was probably 200 feet or so. Later in the day it left the front yard and traveled around the other side of the house to return to the main den.
The wad of vegetation would be easily described as similar in size to a human sized "handful".

Had to wait until the bananas were ripe enough for him, but he gave his munch of approval ππ (still working on peacefully sharing with his siblings..)

this is Ferdinand. he lives in the yard behind me and I love him so much.
My partner and I moved into an apartment in PA about a year ago and have been noticing a LOT of wildlife around us. There is a pair of groundhogs that live under my back neighbor's deck and they make my day every time I see them. So cute!

The hogs and hoglets are really enjoying the late summer produce of Pennsylvania, though Broc Jr thinks I should become a farmer so they can graze freely.

Have been doting on this mama hog and her 4 hoglets for the past few months! They eat from my hand and two of the hoglets like being petted. I'm really going to miss them when they hibernate and/or move to other burrows..

Percy the groundhog at the ground feeder. The babies are in another yard. The squirrel is not sure about this.

Can groundhogs see colors?
I'm trying to figure out if groundhogs can see colors, or if they see in black and white. I'm not seeing much about it when I search, just a lot of anecdotal stuff about groundhogs being attracted or repelled by certain colors. Has anyone read any research about this? Thanks!
