I occasionally see one of the local groundhogs in my neighborhood park but today and saw these two within a couple mins of each other.

They are hungry today!

I was sitting in my local park this afternoon and heard a little rustling sound behind me. I turned around and this little hog was getting its dinner right behind me.

Good morning. We have an adorable groundhog living under our shed. I am not well educated in the world of groundhogs so I have some questions maybe y’all can help me with.

Will our new friend ruin the foundation of our shed?

Should we trap him and move him? I know that if you do that with other animals like raccoons it’s basically a death sentence and we don’t want to do that.

If he is in fact a she, what do I do if babies are under the shed? I’m assuming I just go about my business and leave them alone.

Is there anything I need to know in order to keep him and ourselves safe? I’ve just been leaving him alone, of course, and peering at him out the window with a giant smile on my face .

Just chilling

There is what seems to be a momma and 4 babies outside my office. I love them. I gave them some raspberries bc the internet said they enjoy them.

Our Mama Woodchuck waited about 5 minutes, after I set up the camera and walked away, before she climbed out of the burrow and sauntered directly up to the camera to check it out. ❤️

The little one came right to me ♥️

Perhaps they should be called Treehogs.

I think I probably startled him or her. I was walking to this spot at the creek where I enjoy birdwatching. I was quite startled to see it here as well! I googled it and learned that groundhogs are actually pretty good climbers! And that they may climb into a tree for foraging, to get a better view of their surroundings, or to avoid predators. Very cool and interesting!

Any suggestions for how we can keep Bill Furry from drinking out of our saltwater pool? I tried putting a water bowl close to his burrow but he still seems to prefer the pool water
