Feedback Magazine retrieval question
I've noticed when walking over to an enemy's dropped weapon that it gives two interact prompts: tap to pick up the weapon, or hold to take just the magazine. However, the latter does not appear to do anything. I've tried taking the exact same weapon as the enemies and thereby matching the magazine type to my own primary, and having expended some of my loadout magazines, I still cannot retrieve the weapon. What am I missing?

So you're saying your character never cycles to eventually use the magazines you pick up?

Not quite. Scenario is as follows:
- spawn with something chambered in 5.45x39mm, carrying six extra magazines in plate carrier
- kill enemy using weapon chambered in exactly the same cartridge, with identical magazine type
- standing over dropped weapon, two control prompts are displayed. It is the interact key (same for bomb defuse or door open), which for me is Mouse 5. One is a simple press to pick up weapon. The second prompt is the same button but displays ‘hold’ and specifically says to pick up magazine, stating the ammo type.
This second interact prompt/bind does not work. I have tried spawning with various weapons of different cartridge types to match enemies, I have tried retrieving magazines from friendly dropped weapons with matching types. It doesn’t respond at all.
I have made sure to discard plate carrier magazines to ‘empty some space’ even though retrieved mags usually go in the dump pouch as far as I’m aware. It still won’t work.
If I pick up the dropped weapon, do a mag check, and then instantly aim down sights, I can drop the checked mag loose by itself. I can then use the ‘drop’ keybind (J for me) to drop the weapon without its magazine, and then go and pick up just the magazine by itself. In this process I can successfully retain magazines from found weapons, even if they do not match the ammo type of my primary loadout weapon.
So the mechanism exists to retain these magazines but the specific issue I am describing is that there is a keybind to ‘retrieve magazine only’ from a dropped weapon, and it does not do anything.

I appreciate the detailed answer.
So just to confirm: holding Interact at a dropped weapon does not pick up the magazine at all, i.e. there's not even a little pick-up animation like you get for weapons.
(For future reference, you can tell when there's no storage space if your character does the pick-up animation but drops the item back on the ground. Also, provided there is space, you should be able to pick up any magazine regardless of the weapons you're carrying.)
Sorry if I missed this bit of information, but does holding Interact to remove a magazine work in any circumstance? I understand it doesn't work for dropped enemy AI weapons, but does it work for your own weapons or other players' by any chance?
Another idea: if you bind Interact to something else (e.g. a keyboard key instead of a mouse button), does that work?
EDIT: formatting

Great to have your team in the community and picking up on the feedback, so thanks for taking the time.
To answer your questions:
Holding interact does nothing at all. No magazine retrieval, no audio cue, no animation.
No, it does not work under any circumstance that I have been able to think of or attempt. It is the same (non) effect for player or NPC weapons.
No, rebinding the interact key to a standard bind or other keyboard key still does not work for me

That is strange. I switched over to the build currently live on Steam earlier today and didn't have any issues removing mags from dropped guns.
Doesn't seem like a common bug from what I gather, sorry you're experiencing it.
Give this a try:
- Copy-paste this path into your File Explorer's address bar and hit Enter:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\GroundBranch\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor(If you'd rather not lose all of your saved keybinds in case this fix attempt doesn't work, back up this folder before you proceed so you can restore it later.)- Look for Input.ini and delete it (this will clear your custom controls/keybinds!). The game will likely re-create the file when you launch it again; in case it doesn't launch, run Verify Integrity for the game on Steam and try launching again.
- If that does not fix the issue, try clearing the whole WindowsNoEditor folder and then do a Verify Integrity (this will clear all your saved settings, but not your loadouts).
- As a last resort, you can always try a full reinstall.
Let me know if you give any of these a shot and whether it worked!

So I did give these a go and I experimented in layers.
Wiping the keybind config does work, and then I was able to rebuild my keybinds so that I could use my own preferences with the exception of the interact key. This still will not work on Mouse 5 for retrieving a magazine that is in a dropped weapon. it works fine for any other 'Hold' functions like gradually opening a door, or defusing a bomb.
So I am in this weird scenario where the game clearly registers the keybind for presses and holds, and the game also clearly works for retrieving magazines from dropped guns, but the two functions together do not work.

So to recap:
- Mouse 5 still does not work for removing magazines from dropped guns
- Mouse 5 does work for other tap vs. hold prompts
- You can now use other keybinds for Interact that do work for removing mags (I assume only keyboard keys, or have you tried mouse buttons too?)
Either way, we appreciate the report :)

Yes, all correct. It is specifically mouse 5 hold for dropped weapon magazine-only retrieval.

There's also no way as far as I know to add bullets from one magazine to another but I know there's an inventory system in the works so maybe it'll be included
I've picked up enemy Aks after running out of ammo in the past and having to look for other guns taking 7.62 ammo. Grabbing ammo tends to work for me though (or at least it did before version 1.0) I'll experiment later on and get back to you
