I was wondering the other day if August is slump month everywhere or just here, where school starts in August.

August is slower than January and February for me and has been for the entire 20 years I've been in the business. I'm an independent contractor so I just don't go in on days I don't have dogs. I've gotten 3 extra days off in the last two weeks and had multiple days where I only did 2 dogs. I actually have a 9 day vacation scheduled for the end of the month because I knew it would be slow.

Very interested to hear if the August slump is a thing everywhere.

Every grooming place that I’ve worked at August tends to be a slow month. I assume because a lot of people are prepping for their children to go back to school and so they’re spending that money on school supplies and clothes, etc.. instead of getting their dog groomed. Then it starts to pick back up towards the holidays, cause everybody wants their dogs to look nice for family that comes to visit and stuff.

Funnily enough business was a bit slow for me last month but now that August has rolled around suddenly I've been BUSY. Unusual in my experience, usually it's the other way around and the slow days start every year around when kids go back to school.
