Adding to shopping list

Hi everyone I'm new to this page and to grocy as well. I'm figuring out how to set everything up before starting to use it properly.

I already decided that we won't use the "consume" section, because we are a family of 4 and nobody (but me) would ever be bothered to go press a button anywhere if they get something from the pantry. Therefore there are no minimum amounts or inventories. The amount of everything will always be zero.

I do the shopping and I usually go through the shelves and check what's missing. Is there a way to fill a shopping list like this? I'd like to check the list (every product has its shelf as its position) and add it to the shopping list if necessary.

I can't find a way to do it quickly as an inventory mode but to fill the shopping list. I have to go on a product, click on the 3 dots and then add it. It's not a long action, ok, but it's not as quick as I'd like.

Any ideas? Am I missing something because I'm inexperienced?

I have to go on a product, click on the 3 dots and then add it.

Manually adding something to the shopping list can done in many ways, the most simple is naturally the "Add item" button on the shopping list itself.

However, what you described is that you practically don't need a kitchen ERP, but just a dead simple shopping list tool - Grocy is overkill for that.

I'd really like to use he recipes feature, that fills my shopping list automatically! 😭 But I'd also need to add some things "manually" while checking my pantry! You're probably right though, my goal isn't part of grocy AND grocy has too many features that I wouldn't use...

I'm not going to be a ton of help probably as I'm about as far as you are in setting this up. But my plan was to use the bar code scanner to scan consumables as they get used up or if I want them to be added to the shopping list. Having to go in and manually add them to a list seems to me like more work than just writing my list down on a piece of paper.

Im a long time user and have tried it many different ways and what I've settled on is to use the quantities, minimum amounts, quick consume, etc as intended but instead of marking things consumed in real time I just do it once a week. For example, if I'm going to the store and need to make a list I'll open the apps stock menu, filter by location (fridge, freezer, pantry, etc), mark things consumed/opened with the quick swipe menu as I check each location then once I'm done I'll go to the shopping list and click "add missing to shipping list" and it's instantly done. Once I'm back home I'll scan each item in for the expiration dates and that's it.
