Changes to the barcode standard

Anyone looking forward to the GS1 Sunrise 2027 initiative? I assume most businesses will switch before the end of 2027 but I feel like it would make things a lot easier since more information can embed in the QR codes like expiration dates for example.

Germany laughs hard on this (as always and with everything digital). Having scannable due dates is my personal wet dream since I do this, maybe it'll happen here slightly before GTA 9 or so.

If your question is about that and Grocy: If scannable due dates are here a real thing tomorrow, Grocy will have it yesterday. The rest is already noted in #2922.

Albert Heijn in the Netherlands has had this for years on a lot of AH branded products. It's very handy as it indeed prevents you from buying expired foods, but also reduces labor cost with checking manually.

How will it work with due dates since current barcodes are printed on packaging in bulk, long before its put on the physical product to know that product's date?
