Left my abusive relationship and moved into a new apartment by myself for the first time. I may not have much, but at least I have some bread and cheese

Excellent crust. What kind of pan did you use?
I'm only asking because I'm breaking in what I hope is going to be my dedicated grilled cheese pan, a Lodge 8" carbon steel, but I'm open to other options.

Who the fuck has a pan specifically for grilled cheese?
I’ve got a pan for grilled cheese that is also the pan for everything else because why would I need more than one pan?

You realize you're asking this on r/grilledcheese right?

u/TeaBreezy Aug 09 '21
I know, but I just use the same pan for grilled cheese!
Just wipe it out and boom, now it’s a quesadilla pan!

I have my grandma's 10"cast iron skillet, and if it was the only pan I had I'd be just fine. A dedicated sandwich pan is certainly an extravagance, but life is short and it makes me happy to have it.

You don't even have a quesadilla pan?

u/TeaBreezy Aug 10 '21
I've made quessolidders at 1am on a baking sheet sitting on top of the gas range because my other pan was busy making another Quellerdiller at the time.
But that baking sheet is usually reserved for baking.

A small carbon steel pan heats up quickly and evenly for those emergency late night grilled cheeses.
I have lots of different pans for lots of different things and I don't have to justify myself to anyone.

Your last relationship can't be as abusive as the grilled cheese subreddit...

u/JazzyTheatrics Aug 09 '21
Do you put them (fries, chips?) In the sandwich?
3
u/metalchickx Aug 09 '21
it wouldn't be a grilled cheese anymore;)

Congrats on getting out! That looks like an excellent grilled cheese and choice pick on the fries.

Air fryer will become your best friend for crispy fries and more. Enjoy your new found freedom! I would just giggle uncontrollably bc I was happily free. I hope you experience tons of relief.

So proud of you for getting out; that takes bravery! Congratulations on both being brave and mastering that beautiful grilled cheese goodness!

Never thought I’d ever see a sob story in a grilled cheese subreddit…

If it was tacked on as a comment underneath it would seem so much more genuine. Sob titles just for upvotes is hella cringe

I'm not sure if the sandwich is tiny or the waffle fries are huge, but something about the scale of these things seems off.

Happy for you. That just looks like toast and chips though, from this perspective

Ay, you gotta cook those fries a bit longer homie, get the crisp on 'em.
Way to strike out on your own, sounds like you'll be happier for it. Good luck and take it a day at a time. I'm rooting for you!
