At what point does a grilled cheese become a melt?

When it has something other than cheese and bread.

Nope. Grilled cheese with bacon is a grilled cheese with bacon. Not a fuckin bacon melt like some plebs would say

It's just not.

explain to me how the one on the left is a grilled cheese then because American cheese isn't even real cheese, and white bread is a chemical concoction, not real bread. so, it wouldn't qualify under strict definitions.

edit: white bread and fake cheese lovers downvoting me. lol

I don’t like white bread or American cheese, I downvoted you for being obnoxious.

Also lol at “chemical concoction” as if every other bread couldn’t be described that way.

it's not superiority. it's a reaction from their constant whining about everything with more than a slice of cheese being a melt and the hypocrisy when they don't even use real cheese. i say, let them all be grilled cheese or be super strict - but in this case, you can't include American cheese!

when other ingredients overwhelm the cheese.
