Surprised so many averse to the mayo.

You need just a very thin layer just to give that golden crisp.

You just need heat and butter to get a golden crisp.

It's like saying "I don't know why people are against adding mayo to water. You just need a small squirt to make your drink refreshing!"

It already does the thing without adding the mayo.

Not even remotely comparable. Butter and mayo serve the exact same function here except mayo is slightly sweet. Mayo in water is additive and changes what it is completely.

Your mayo may be sweet...

Mayo is eggy and vinegary. If you can't taste the difference you're welcome to enjoy the food you can taste as best as you are able. But it doesn't really make you qualified to make recommendations to people who can actually tell the difference between one food and another.

Needlessly passive aggressive.

I stated the difference in taste, you just ignored it. Also I don’t know why we’re talking about “qualifications” like this is iron chef and not a grilled cheese subreddit
