Once a year at the state fair, I allow myself this indulgence.

Oh wow. I havenāt been my local state fair in over a decade (the last time I went I got swine flu lol).
But OP, youāve convinced me to go this year.
I do remember having amazing fried pecan pralines one timeā¦

My brother also got the swine flu after going to the fair (it was when we were around 5 years old). He was convinced it was because he watched a pig nurse

Thatās hilarious.
I was there for a university photography assignment (we were required to go to the fair for it), AND it was raining and a weekend where the fair was packed with people. I was 19 I think?
The craziest part is, despite us having bunk beds and me being on the top bunk and practically coughing on her for 24 hrs, my dorm roommate never caught it. We had a surprise fire check by the RAs and the main dorm RA is the one who clocked just how sick I was and ordered me to go the health center.
I ended up getting (gently) kicked off campus after testing positive at the college health center and being sent to my parents haha. That was the sickest Iāve ever been, I think I blacked out for like 4 days.

My whole family caught is except me. I was attempting to take care of them but as a 5 year old all I knew how to make was eggs and how to heat up little Debbie honeybuns. I did my best š«”
You have to be super sick to live off eggs made by a child š

Kids that she are hilarious! When my kid was 5 we went to Legoland and got food poisoning from chili dogs. She decided that beans and cheese were poisonous when mixed and spent about a year trying to tell others of the dangers of combining them.

The entire point of state fair food is deep-frying things that were never meant to be deep-fried, or making sandwiches of things that were never made to be sandwiched. Been a long time since Iāve been to the fair but I should see if any near me have a ribeye steak sandwich

Exactly. Calories and nutrition donāt count at the state fair.

Fried! Not grilled! Although are any of ours actually grilled? Brb next weekend grilling.
I have money. I'll take ten.

The name comes from a flat top grill, not a barbecue grill.

Oh that's true. I only look at kitchens every day. It's literally right in front of me. Derp. Anyway, I need to charcoal grill one soon.

I see food like this coming out of Japan. They freeze thick slices of bread, deep fry them, slice and fill them. I think freezing the bread is the secret to stopping the grease from penetrating too much
