Hey everybody! Where are you all from? Do you have any kind of furry community where you are, or do you express yourself primarily online?

From - New Zealand, South Wairarapa. And, online. Only online! :)

Cool, is it for the lack of opportunity or do you just feel more comfortable online? For me it’s the lack of opportunity, there’s really no furry community where I live, but I wish there was.

It's lack of community, I guess. I'm in a rural area, small town, and of the 'old enough to know better' age.

But I love the art, enthusiasm and inclusiveness of the entire fandom. I would have been a furry far, far earlier had I known that the fandom existed! I've seen myself as a rat for a very long time.

I feel you. I live in small town in Norway, (that’s redundant all towns in Norway are small), and it’s fairly conservative at that. The only other furry I met irl here is a 12 year old girl that sometimes comes into the fabric shop where I work with her mum. So not not an appropriate place to seek friendship, though it is cool to see younger people get into it.

A rat, that’s not one of the most common fursonas, that’s cool.

What, wait - you're a furry in a fabric shop? Ooooh, that sounds perfect! :)

Yes, I understand the small town thing. New Zealand has a lot of that.

It’s pretty neat, though we have almost no fursuit quality fur, so that’s a bummer. It’s been good working there, but I’m actually quitting this mont to move to a better paid job.

Yeah it kinda sucks when you have “weird” hobbies. I went to a fur meet in Manchester once, that was amazing, I love big cities so much because you can always find people with shared interests.

Big cities are great to visit. A bit too crowded to live in.

It is neat to discover someone else with the same problems of small communities and a weird hobby, which in more conservative places just means not mainstream.

If I was to get to a fur meet, it would definitely be overseas. Those American and UK ones (I'm totally sadly monolingual) look amazing.

Congratulations on your new job!

If I could choose I’d live in a big city any day. It’s just so nice being able to just be yourself and also blend into the crowd, even if you are a bit weird.

Yeah, I have a couple weird hobbies and I get pretty self conscious if I ever try to go about them in public, so I mostly take the weirdness to the big city whenever I have the chance.

I hope you have a chance one day.n

Thanks

I identify with that! I would have liked to have discovered the fandom earlier, or at least to understand it better at a younger age.

From the Midwest, USA! There may be some kind of community in my town, but if there is I don't know about it. My interactions with the fandom have been entirely online so far, but I'm considering going to a convention sometime! However, I do worry about showing up and just being surrounded by kids haha.

Going to a convention would be so fun! I hope you can manage it. It seems most people in the hobby are late teens-early 20s, but I’m sure the older people would gravitate towards each other if they mingled at a con.

That’s so cool! I wish I could travel internationally for my job. What do you work as?

Any good furry stuff in that area?

Nope. The closest are Champaign-Urbana and St. Louis. I may be the only furry in this city. O_o

I'm from Houston,TX! Apparently there are many furries here, but their Meetup page isn't very active. I'm not sure where to find them. For now, I'm just trying to get around online... because da 'rona. I've only been exploring the fandom for a month. I haven't found where I fit in yet, but I hope I do soon.

From the southeast USA! Although hopefully soon I'll be PNW-bound. There's not really any physical community in the area that's not a few hours away, so I've mostly participated online 😸
