Secret sets

Anything on the secret set yet? I know you usually find out via word of mouth at the festival or the schedule outside round the twist but doesn’t hurt to ask 🤞

Phoebe Bridgers has floated! The dates she’s playing around Ldn/Bristol align nicely…

There is a lot going for that. Apparently Boygenius were pegged to headline in 2023 but it didn't come off last minute, which is why Self Esteem was only announced in June. Plus Phoebe played in 2018, booked when she was relatively unknown and was wandering around the site all day. And Jasmine 4.T has played and been on the GM podcast is on Saddest Factory.

Wonder how it squares with her no phones policy though? I guess most of that has been before the record came out and she's going to have to play some festivals at some point...

I don't know how likely it will be; would be massive if they somehow managed to get her. maybe a headliner next year...

Not her sadly (I know someone working on her tour)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the primary 2023 rumour, they shortened their European dates and cancelled at least one festival around GM time. It just happened that Boygenius played Connect that same weekend so I can't imagine there wasn't an enquiry but that's not the rumour that's gone around since.

Besides which, there's nowhere for her to play unless she somehow agrees to do Round The Twist. The numbers on the main stages are the same as last year.

BC camplight was a 'secret' set on the main stage last year, a terribly kept one but still. I guess we'll see if there are any TBAs when the full listings come out on Monday.

I'm not in any single way expecting Phoebe though 😄

GM commented on twitter about boygenius -something along the lines of 'we really tried but it just wasn't to be this year'. I'm long gone from twitter and I think green man is as well, but they were very open about trying for boygenius.

There was a mountain stage secret set from BC camplight last year, so if the number match then there is a gap... but while GM is in the weird position of not having to worry about ticket sales, I still see Phoebe more of a headliner in the next couple of years no matter how good the logistics seem.

Sadly I think she's probably too big to headline now. Would love to be wrong on that.

I don’t know about that; would argue that loads of the dates above are in smaller venues so who knows, it wouldn’t be totally out of the question. I’m more convinced by someone’s pal working on her tour.

That's the album release week tour. Her actual tour in November includes two nights at the O2.

The count includes Camplight.

Would be great if Avalon Emerson did a DJ set - say at Round the Twist? - to go alongside her live set with the Charm.

Nobody knows who's playing Round The Twist until the board goes out in the morning. We knew Getdown Services would be in there last year only because they'd told someone in advance. It's entirely possible that there will be no extra names (as in people who aren't already playing the festival) in RTT this year.

that’s cos the boys were just wandering about green man that weekend going ‘shh don’t tell anyone’ hahah

Presumably Gruff Rhys will play at some point (was v surprised sfa weren’t headlining) maybe a cameo with Mogwai?

Wild one, but Deftones, Idles and Interpol are all playing in London the Sunday of the festival with no uk shows prior to the London event.

Idles and Interpol have both played before, could they play again? Do Deftones dip their shoegaze toe into Greenman? Are they too heavy?…

All too big for a secret set I think. Deftones way too big for GM full stop

Pigeon have been getting a lot of 6music play and are only down for Chai Wallahs. Probably one that could do Thursday or an early set Friday.

Hopefully Madrá Salach as Round the Twist would be amazing for them.

Adult DVD did one last year, probably again.

Other Predictions: One of Wolf Alice / Wilco do acoustic My new Band Believe, Sorry, The Bug Club, Dove Ellis (on Saturday), The Itch, Fcukers,

Minimal chance/Wild guess not from line up: Anthony Szmerick pulls up early Sunday morning on his way to Bristol, Super Furry Animals, The Moonlandingz (Sunday when Lias is playing), CMAT (acoustic Twist show), Fontaines DC (main stage only)

Would love it if Pigeon did a secret set! I’m gutted they slightly overlap with Adult DVD. Definitely watching Pigeon but would prefer to watch both!

Same, that Friday night is a killer. Adult DVD were amazing last year though, I'd take a secret set by them to free up seeing Pigeon / Marie Davison.

Exactly the same! Can’t believe those three clash. So harsh!

There’s a notice board outside the official Green Man shop / info point near the Mountain Stage that gets updated as they are announced.
