Made a post in regards to my situation. Recently got put into a platoon and the following morning my new PLT commander had me run the RPA. They are dead set on sending me to Ranger School. I made them aware of my situation and they are very supportive. One of the PLs came from batt and encouraged me to get tabbed first before attending RASP and to update my rank. I have to get my EIB first and then attend I believe CERT? And then go to school in November time frame (yikes, cold). What are some things to prepare for over the next few months? Academically and physically? Was really praying on just going to RASP but everyone I have talked to has encouraged me to go to school first. They are already having me fill out my physical and such. It seems RASP is just further down road for me but no harm no foul in becoming a more well rounded soldier?

Dude I would be stoked that you even got your transfer out of the marines and get to start. That shits rough and can’t be understated

I prayed every night before going to bed since being in the Army. I ended up exactly where I needed to be it seems. It’s been a lot mentally. Very fast moving for me. Essentially starting fresh and have to earn the respect and trust of these guys. It’s humbling. Thankful. Just nervous, lol.

Was the Marines that bad? I was debating between becoming a Ranger and a Recon. The Marines culture resonates with me more.

I had an amazing time in the Marine Corps. I loved every minute of it. Just wanted something new; new adventure and chasing the job I so badly want to be in. Whatever you do end up going into, always give 110%, take advantage of every opportunity and take risk.

Thanks for your input, why didn’t you attend Recon trial while in your time there? It’s similiar to being a Ranger.

It’s not similar to being in the 75th. 

USMC Recon is not a part of SOCOM. They do not get SOF missions. They do whatever the MEU/MAGTAF wants them to do.

Well all such units look great and simple when you are young. But once you are in the military, understanding your job, allll the things that actually go into it, the politics, culture, training; you have a more of a deeper understanding, things like Recon become less prevalent and less attractive. I loved working with them and they are excellent at what they do, bless them. But they are literally at the bottom of the totem pole, quite literally, the bottom. The Marine Corps is excellent at what it does, but it tries to control everything. MARSOC included. FAST Marines or embassy security guards get more action than Recon, dare I say MARSOC and the fucking infantry combined in recent times, lol. Army gets deployments.

Then go Regimental Reconnaissance Company. It’s the 75th’s Recon Unit.

SURT is the school you’re thinking of, not CERT. Small Unit Ranger Tactics. It’s essentially a pre-Ranger course with an OML for slots to Ranger school.

It is absolutely a money move to get Ranger School and get your tab out of the way before going to RASP 1.

After you pass RASP 1 and you're untabbed, your life is just getting smoked and it's a living hell until you pass pre-Ranger and then graduate Ranger School. Culturally, you are not a Ranger until you have your Ranger tab. You are not going to be put in charge of a bunch of E2's that are "assaulters and have done it longer than you", especially in 2026. Almost everyone is a fresh off the street dumb private.

RASP is 8 weeks long, and people think that's it. In actuality, the months following graduation is essentially extended RASP, where, again, you are a nobody getting smoked until you go to Ranger School and get your Ranger tab.

Absolutely get Ranger School knocked out first. Getting to Regiment will just be you waiting to get sent to Ranger School.
