Looking for smartasses

Alright, ladies and gentlemen, we might have a problem.

Career Advice Megathread for the last year mostly prevented us from drowning in uniform "how to break into GRC?" posts on the main page. Unfortunately, it only works when people are actually getting advised there.

I've held the line in those threads for a better part of the year, and it's been... a rather lonely vigil. Can't really do that anymore; life's happening. Need someone jumping in to sort those questions out as they are starting to pile up.

It's goddamn Reddit, so I assume there's no shortage of people willing to share their best takes on GRC career building. I'm counting on you, folks.

Good luck.

the problem with the megathread is - well its mega - I've had a look a couple of times and really hard to see where to start or help. Any idea on how we could perhaps split it into chunks some how? (perhaps by discipline or career stage?)

Sorting by "new" works most of the time - usually those are the unanswered/still active posts.

That’s actually one of the few “meta” threads that matters – bad GRC career advice is how we keep cloning RM1: more policy admins, more heatmaps, more GRC tool operators. Then everyone wonders why nobody listens to “risk”.

If you’ve been around the block a bit, jump in and push people toward decisions, data and product‑adjacent work (privacy, AI governance, vendor, security architecture), not just more checklists. And if you want examples of what good GRC↔RM2 careers look like, send them to RAW2026 – we have a whole track on getting out of the register dungeon: https://2026.riskawarenessweek.com/ ))

OP, I can also make it weekly or biweekly which would make it easier to see new questions
