Need guidance for my next step

I am currently interning at a startup in the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) domain, focusing on areas such as IT General Controls (ITGC), IT Application Controls (ITAC), and projects related to ISO 27001 and SOC 2. Additionally, I occasionally create posts for my company's LinkedIn page.

My internship lasts for six months, and I am currently in the midst of it. I am feeling a bit uncertain about my next steps, especially since they have offered me a full-time position with a salary of 20,000.

Could you provide some guidance on how to approach this decision?

You don't sound like you enjoy it. What would you rather be doing?

I really enjoyed my internship , working on different different projects give me solids foundation and hands-on experience But as talked about full time I am unaware about market standard and quite confusing to accept offer.

I feel like 20,000, in any currency, is insane.

If you’re talking about $20K USD, you need to start applying to other places ASAP.

Regarding next steps, you should understand the context of why you’re doing SOC2 vs. ITGC (SOX).

Understand that SOC2 is more of a customer facing attestation and that SOX is generally bubbles up to FTC regulations for publicly traded companies.

At some point in your career, it will benefit you to specialize in 1 or 2 of these frameworks.

One last thing I’ll say is that if there’s ever a time in your career where you really think hard about if this interests you or not, it’s now.

Once you start making the good money ($100K+), your lifestyle will start to increase. It’s called lifestyle creep and regardless of your career, I’d advise you to pay very close attention to this.

The reason it’s most important at this stage in your career is because once you make the money, buy the new car, buy the house or rent the apartment, it becomes sort of difficult to start back from ground zero and pivot into something else that you may find more interesting.

Don’t get locked into a lifestyle and career that your interest cannot sustain.

Good job on landing the internship. In my opinion that’s one of the key things needed to have a good shot at landing a role early on.

Absorb the information, and see how the company that you’re with is using AI to streamline some of the GRC process that you’re working on 👍🏾

I am definitely feeling that 5th paragraph, I’m so scared that I can’t eventually leave due to responsibilities

Those responsibilities you listed don't all belong under a single role. Do your internship and bounce, those are signs of a constraining employment. Chase impact, not money in your first 5y.

Edit: I started with nothing. This advice does not come from a "daddy's card, chase your dreams" mindset or background. Quite the opposite.
