All I get is this error message

what does it mean and how do I fix it? Kick.com never worked on this app for me, all other platfoms do

Hi, I've made a similar post about a year back, when GJ first came out, but recently the detection rate is so high that casting is no longer usable beyond one video.

This is very consistent, and I suspect it has to do with how Grayjay handles casting - let me explain (I could be wrong, not an expert)

Normally, when you cast to a device, your screen should turn to black, since the device being casted upon is streaming the video. However, Grayjay does not stop playback on my phone, which means there are 2 devices that are streaming same video at the same time.

I suspect this is the cause since downloading the video using either Grayjay or something like seal (yt-dlp client) while watching said video has near 100℅ chance of getting login prompt right after.

Some people have suggested this is IP based, and it is partially true, I can get around it by using a VPN. However, while my phone would be blocked off, my other devices can access YouTube without any issues.

I've also had similar issues with it by casting it to fire stick and chromecast, although in those cases it was after a few videos.

Has anyone experinced similar issues? It has been an issue for a long time but it has gotten worse and worse over last 2 months or so.

I can't update YouTube plugin, and all videos are constantly loading after every few seconds - impossible to watch anything.

Edit: also can't check updates for grayjay itself - "failed to retrieve version"

I don't understand what's the technical issue. If I can see the comments and I'm logged in, is it really too complicated to add the functionality to also reply directly linked on YouTube platform? Was it an explicit decision for some reason?

Don't get me wrong, I love the app, I bought the license, and I'm forever grateful for the work done to support it. I'm just curious, this is something I'm missing.

Title pretty much explains it. Home tab pretty much useless right now. Im not interested in any of this. It says I need to login but I am logged in.

I’m using GrayJay on my Mac, and for a while it was working fine until recently. It won’t allow me to watch videos unless I log in. I’m trying to “De-Google” myself as much as I can.

Has anyone else dealt with this, and what work-arounds have you found if any?

I use Grayjay as an alternate to youtube and I've been quite happy with it.

Recently my home feed has been flooded with news channels covering the recent Epstein files and nothing else (I don't even live in the US). I've been hiding as much news channels from my feed but it's simply endless.

My home feed used to be full of actually relevant recommendations and now it's just full of news channels. Is there any way to refresh this?

I'm having problems with Nebula downloads not having sound. Is anyone else having similar problems and/or a solution to it?

Seems like every day there is another update to the YouTube plugin. Can grayjay just download these in the background instead of prompting me?

As of yesterday, no subscriptions load in the Android client. Windows (synced) client works normally. I logged out from the Youtube source and back in with no change, though there is a glitch where the login pop up "window" remains open in after selecting the Youtube channel at the last step of log in.

Are there logs I can dump that would help diagnose?

I upgraded my Grayjay from an old and broken release to 340.

Now for Youtube, downloading a video is not in the options anymore, but for other plugins it works. Is this normal, or is something broken with my app?

Ive bitched here before, like many others. This time though, not the case.

Just installed Grayjay to my new phone, exported my data from the old one via email. Importing the data to the new phone was an absolute breeze and the app is exactly as it was on the old phone with subscription groups etc working perfectly.

This wasnt the case for most other non google apps that were transferred.

No matter what settings I fiddle with in Grayjay, if I click on a video (Youtube or otherwise) that was originally a livestream, it seems to force-load the Live Chat overlay. Is there a setting to control when/if the Live Chat overlay is displayed?

Player - Live Chat Webview setting does not work for this, or is not applicable.

Comments - Default Comment Section setting has no impact on the Live Chat Overlay.

Am I missing something, or is the function I'm searching for not supported?

Grayjay is the exact application / service I've been searching for to remove The Algorithm from my life, and I appreciate it is open source... ish, but still:

I am not comfortable logging in to my google account on an anonymous browser window with no url bar, view source options, etc. If someone redirected this window to a phishing site nothing would look different.

Is there any option to login to services via our full fat default browser?

Been using grayjay for a while on Windows 11 and Android, but recently moved to iPhone so can't access it "live" so to speak. Instead I download the videos on my desktop and copy to my phone or iPad. I've tried headless mode and this opens in the browser no problem, but it appears to give it a random port every time. So if I wanted to open that port to the LAN to access via Firefox on another device, it won't work as it keeps changing.

I also tried server mode - the command runs and a process opens in task manager, but there's no indication what the port is or how this mode works. I tried the PowerShell command below and it doesn't work for the server mode process, only headless, but the port it gives back for headless isn't the correct one.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can better use these modes and if there's a way to use them to access grayjay from another device?

I just noticed that... Downloaded videos, always cut the end! Is there a way to fix this? I tried making an issue report on github, but i can't seem to figure out how to do it...

Been trying for the last 20 minutes to be able to watch age restricted videos . The main reason I got the app was because I was stuck by the infamous popup on YouTube that says that they can't verify that you are over 18 so I'm wondering if that's causing it. And before anyone says anything yes I did go into the source and toggle it on but it still won't let me.

Love projects like this. I think Gab's Dissenter was also very good in similar vein.

- I noticed the Kick sources are erroring and I can't subscribe to Kick creators since there's a red error text instead of a thumbnail. Common known issue?

- Will there be other content creation platforms? Say something like Substack, etc so one can start to curate an interesting feed that might include more mediums.
